Correct. I am in Brisbane and they performed here.

Not really.

You guys offer a product, albeit a free product.

That product is a heavy metal website dedicated to heavy metal music.

People come here for heavy metal reviews, news etc.

Things like Blabbermouth or Kerrang can get away with it because they have a broader focus. Even Terrorizer has a broader focus (it labels itself as an Extreme Music magazine).

I stopped buying mags like Metal Hammer in the mid 1990's because they mainly focused on grunge, pop punk and hip hop.

----

What's also bizarre is that you guys will review Radiohead but generally stay away from punk and hardcore which is a lot closer to Metal.

Really? A few days ago I went to Soundwave with a gorgeous lady, checked out Dimmu Borgir, Slayer, and Iron Maiden. Then we went to a nearby metal club and partied till 3 AM. That really sucks doesn't it?

>Implying that people that listen to nothing but metal are the only ones capable of doing this.

Plus, Slayer canceled at Soundwave.

To clarify, I'd probably hate to be anyone but me, but I can't imagine intentionally limiting myself to one kind of music for the rest of my life. I mean, I love metal, and a vast majority of my collection is made up of it, but there's so much wonderful, beautiful music out there that "swearing off all other types of music" seems absolutely stupid to me, and I love music far too much to even consider doing that.

I don't consider it to be limiting at all, when you consider the wide variety of music within the metal genre. For example, Nile and Yngwie Malmsteen don't sound alike, though both are metal.

And I don't feel superior to anyone because of my taste in music. I have friends who like other kinds of music. Overall I think this site is very informative and has well written reviews. I'm simply stating an opinion that the site could be improved by covering more metal bands rather than wasting space on bands that have nothing to do with metal.

It's kinda like saying "I'm only gonna eat dishes with chicken." There are a lot of things you can do with chicken, because it is a pretty versatile meat, but chicken can't do everything. Then again, if you like chicken, then hell, go for it, but for me, I just wouldn't be able to think that way.

I've actually been looking for an excuse to review the Leftover Crack, Refused, and Dead Kennedys albums for a while. Now I know where to turn when my metal bin is dry again. Thanks for the suggestion! (Not sarcasm btw)

She will be sleeping with your best friend or boss in 1 year because she likes men who listen to classical music :P

Believe it or not I'm 44. But I've been listening to metal since I was 14 in the midst of the NWOBHM. As a teen, I swore off all other kinds of music when I discovered bands like Venom, Anvil, Exciter, Witchfinder General, etc. And I've stuck with it ever since. I spend about $100-200/week adding to my 10,000+ collection of metal CDs. I never miss a metal show in my area, even when travelling overseas I check to see if any metal bands are playing. I like power, thrash, black, death, doom, prog metal (as long as it's heavy), all genres of metal. But metal only.

Isn't it odd that someone is getting flamed on a metal reviews forum, for having a passion for heavy metal?

Dang and I thought I was the oldest one here :omfg:

EDIT: But of course, I'm just speaking my mind. Do what you want, but it just kinda baffles me is all.

I agree with this. I listen to classical music, rock, hard rock, some gospel,Gregorian chants and choral music and I can't image just listening to just metal.

Variety is the spice of life.

Ok ok I get it I'm on to you guys. The real reason you reviewed this is just to get traffic here because we all know the really good reviews hardly get to 3 pages but the crappy and controversial reviews do.

And here I thought you guys were serious :P

IMO metal is so versatile and so expansive that it does just about everything, especially anything originating from rock. It even does classical grandeur quite well.

The only thing Metal doesn't do in my opinion is traditional crooners/big band stuff. For that you need to get out Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Tom Jones.

It's also no good for tangos and other ballroom dancing. :P

I'm not bagging out non-Metal stuff - as stated I do listen to it on occassion. But generally there is a metal band out there for just about any vibe you're after.

And in my opinion they're fair enough.

Punk bands such as Exploited turned metal anyway and Jello Biafra from the Dead Kennedy's has had a lot to do with metal.

I also like their stuff. Too Drunk To Fuck is something I related to a lot as a young guy (and sometimes it was the girl).

Have you ever danced tango?

Yes I used to go to dancing classes and did tangos, sambas, rhumbdas, chachas, waltzes and three steps. Dancing is completely Heavy Fuckin' Metal. :dio:

Hey Faggots,

My name is onionpants, and I hate every single one of you. All of you are fat, retarded, no-lifes who spend every second of their day listening to stupid ass music. You are everything bad in the world. Honestly, have any of you ever gotten any pussy? I mean, I guess it’s fun making fun of people because of your own insecurities, but you all take to a whole new level. This is even worse than listening to nu-metal.

Don’t be a stranger. Just hit me with your best shot. I’m pretty much perfect. I went to Soundwave with a gorgeous lady, checked out Dimmu Borgir, Slayer, and Iron Maiden. Then we went to a nearby metal club and partied till 3 AM. You are all faggots who should just kill yourselves. Thanks for listening.

I agree with a lot of the sentiments of the metal only crowd, but comparing Pink Floyd to Lady Gaga is where the line is drawn.

Much  for Rhys.

I party till 6am pretty much 4 days a week. I can do this because I don't writhe in convulsions of hatred if I hear something that's not Metal, and I can enjoy House and Italodance in the right setting.

Actually, I fucking love Italodance anyway.

I'm still bemused that someone chooses not to listen to Pink Floyd because METAL. It's worse than being a vegetarian, because at least then you have a strong belief that meat is murder, and murder's undoubtedly a bad thing. What's bad about Pink Floyd, apart from the odd annoying song about gnomes? NOTHING. It's an arbitrary choice that Onionpants has made based on nothing whatsoever, and as a result there's a little less colour in his daily life than the rest of us. What can you do, but offer condolences? It's not flaming, Onion, it's shocked pity, as if you just told us that you refuse to use one of your arms. We're not calling you a one-armed gimp, we're saying, dude! Life with two arms is so much better!

And I review quite a reasonable amount of punk, thankyouverymuch, much more than the Radiohead etc that I do. Refused and Discharge classics? Crass, NoMeansNo, hell, Extreme Noise Terror this very week!

Hey idiot, someone else posted how much it would suck to be me, because I committed the shocking crime of enjoying heavy metal music, so I just gave an example of how my life isn't quite so bad.

And the pic is a fail because the "lady" looks like a tranny and you don't even look heterosexual.
