I supposed you speak french :

- Heres what JL Mélenchon, candidate for 2012 election states on his website (it's an history lesson explaining Belgium never existed anyway, and that it's french duty to assimilate french-speaking regions (namely, Wallonia and Brussels) : http://www.jean-luc-melenchon.fr/2010/0 ... ce-moment/

It was a year ago. I don't think he changed his mind meanwhile. He's the leader of a small left party (Le Parti de Gauche), which represents something like 5% of the electorate. Not much.

- Here's a short one, relating a similar statement coming from a right-winger parliament member, ideologically close to Nicolas Sarkozy : http://lci.tf1.fr/monde/europe/2010-06/ ... 83497.html

To this day, I do not know the exact thoughts of serious candidates for 2010, such as Nicolas Sarkozy or Dominique Strauss-Kahn, on this matter.

Probably less imperialistic.

Thanks for the articles, my French isn't that grand so I didn't read all of Mélenchon's banter. I got the sense of him sweet-talking the Walloons to sniff out a new electorate. "Arrogant Flamands", and such - that's everything I despise in a chauvinist Frenchman.

You got it right. The guy's pretty much an asshole. Nothing to be worried about, at any rate.

Edit : and sorry for the french articles

Took him long enough. Like Guido says, he's barely been in Parliament.

Nothing more than some disconnected comment from a corporate neocon pig, dismissed.

Very disconnected, considering the 'fat and lazy' comment was in response to a question about whether the US would see an Egyptian-style uprising.

Why don't we just wait and see if it's true or not.

The idea of a second American revolution is something that excites me as well as gives me a degree of hope. Its an issue that constantly arises in talking with the likes of my uncle who is a massive conservative, and its an issue I agree with them on as an impending reality given the massive disconnect between Washington and the rest of the country. The way things are both parties are more or less the same, and it more or less just seems like that 800 lb gorilla in the room given the passion of both the right and the left. I would hope that we would see ourselves first and foremost as Americans, and put our political passions aside when the moment occurs. Its something Id take up arms for, and something Id support

Trapt is an aberration of the political left, its best not to take some of what he says too seriously.

true.
I take very little of what he says seriously, actually.
I agree with you about both parties being pretty much the same.
The pols keep us divided while they carve up the country amongst themselves, their cronies and masters.

I swear that was not on the bottom of that article when it first appeared on that site. When I first read that article and posted it later on, it was not there. I'd doubt the Rolling Stone would print something like that anyways even if it was true that he said it. That blurb was added later on.

I've actually taught four classes this semester so far. I know my classical economics though! And I remember you telling me I was wrong when I could quote Adam Smith to support what I said.

Most liberal arts university programs are extremely leftist, there is little doubting that. In my graduate history department, counting teachers + students (about 130), there are probably 10-12 center-right types (myself included), with the remainder divided pretty equally between the standard New York Times/John Stewart types and people like trapt.

I find it ridiculous that all over my uni there are posters for socialist groups.

But can you imagine what would happen if someone started a right wing student group?

We have right wing student groups all over here. Young Americans for Freedom, the Young Republicans, the Conservatives of Tomorrow (a conservative group for business majors), all kinds of bullshit like that on campus. I honestly don't know of a single left wing group on this campus in particular besides the LGBT one which isn't political in the slightest. Cincinnati had the ISO and a political LGBT group but other than that it was more libertarian, conservative, republican groups. The campus was strewn with Condoleeza Rice posters all last week.

We've got a Tory society and a Unionist society, and everyone hates them. The rest of the societies are lib dems, snp, labour, and various socialist groups.
