Do you miss how it felt when you discovered metal?

What's true for me isn't necessarily true for anyone else. In fact, I don't think it is at all...I don't think anyone listens to metal because they're elitist, like I think I did. They only don't listen to other stuff because they're elitist.

My situation was just the weird, misplaced desire of a 15/16 year old to be super krieg and metuhl. Not really sure why, at this point. I'm over it. The basic point is that now I actually really really enjoy everything I listen to, rather than trying to convince myself that Reign in Blood is my favorite thing ever.

I always listened to what I liked. It gradually led to great stuff like Italian Progressive Power Metal. I don't think elitism has anything to do with it since I still listen to nu-metal trash like Slipknot. It's catchy mainstream songwriting, which I like in every genre. Metal is the only one that is diverse for me at all.

Eh. I still enjoy metal as much now as I did when I was first getting into it. I just have more refined tastes now. I've also learned to appreciate albums more, rather than just songs.

I'm not as easily impressed, but that isn't a bad thing. I still really enjoy finding new bands, but also enjoy listening to stuff I've loved for 8-9 years.

I don`t think that feeling ever really went away. Not completely, anyway. I`m still just as excited when I discover a stellar new band as I was when I first started listening to metal. Not only that, but I love being a veteran listener. It`s fun

I definitely miss the days when I listened to Iron Maiden only, played everything by them on my guitar. I remember checking out their discography-section of their site when I was about 12-13, and searching down every damn song on bearshare or whatever, and then just listen to them for two straight years before checking out anything else. Iron Maiden was fucking superior to everything. Yeah I miss those days, I really do.

Woah, plus fucking one. I was a bit older than you were, but I did exactly the same. I'd pay a large amount of money to go back there, just for a couple of days.

One thing I have noticed as I've gotten older and that is when you finally have a family, numerous commitments and full time work, you don't get much time to listen to metal music.

As a teen and in my 20's, I had all the time in the world, but it suddenly catches up with you. Finding the time now to listen to metal is basically a miracle.

So here's my advice, enjoy it while you can and don't take it for granted, cos when you get older, it starts to fall down the list of responsibilities and things to do. I'm just glad that I am a reviewer, so I am guaranteed time to hear some metal - after all I have to if I am to review a particular album.

And don't say that you'll be easily able to juggle both, that's like Apolo Creed thinking he can go toe to toe with Ivan Drago in Rocky IV....it ain't happenin'
