The French Football Federation is under HUGE turmoil. The press just revealed members or the FFF planned on putting (what seems to be) quotas on ethnic origins of youngsters. This in order to have less black and North African people playing for the French national team. "It has nothing to do with racism", defenders say. They argue black players are more massive and muscular than other players, and that we need players with better technical skills and game "vista".

And the worst part is, Laurent Blanc is directly involved to this "quota project" thing.

Seriously it's a total mess. Racism (or even racial considerations) is a very serious matter here, for the better AND for the worst. I frankly don't see how "Lolo" Blanc will get out of this crap. I expect he will resign within the next three months.

To be frank, practically the only white player you had in South Africa last year was Ribery, and he's not nice to look at either.

+1 on Ribéry's face.

But to be fair we also had Lloris, Toulalan, Valbuena, Gourcuff on the pitch. And Gignac, Squillacci, Planus etc. on the bench.

racial quotas are a very stupid thing...

if anything federations should clamp down on players changing nationality. happened in Portugal with Deco, Pepe and Liedson. the first two i can understand, Deco came to Portugal at age 20 and Pepe in his teens, the latter especially said from the start that he wanted to play for Portugal. he even lost his Brazilian accent lol.

Liedson changed nationalities in his thirties or at least late twenties and never seemed to care much about it.

new national coach Paulo Bento has stated that under his watch no naturalized players would be joining the national team.

Yes, and that was precisely the starting point of the "debate" at the FFF. African players, who, after being trained for years in France, decide to play for their initial country instead of France (I personally have absolutely no problem whatsoever with this, because 1) they have the right to do so, 2) they often suck anyway, therefore they are never called in French team.)

The players you mentioned are argued here, funny that you mention them.

if they come in young enough they can play for whoever they want... from their birthplace they can play for their national teams, and from their time in france i think it's perfectly justifiable to see them in a french shirt.

i remember a year or so ago reading an interview with Rafael, the young brazilian at man united who has a portuguese grandfather (apparently that is enough to get him a portuguese passport). he said that he wants to play for Brazil but that he "wouldn't mind" playing for Portugal. yeah, good luck with that, douchebag.

Neil Lennon was just attacked in the middle of the dugout by some random nutjob, probably a Hun.

Well, congrats to Rangers, I guess, although Kilmarnock could at least have pretended not to roll over like that.

Looking forward to the cup final next week, Motherwell can put up a fight against a big team when they want to, and given their recent upset victory against Celtic, this game looks like it might be an absolute cracker.

Can't say they didn't deserve it, though. Manchester United got their asses handed to them.
