There's a real argument for it to have classic status, it's pretty well known for the whole arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr jim lad thing. Take me, I know bugger-all about speed metal, yet I know this is one of the genre's big names. Think I prefer Rage in musical terms, however.

For one thing, Rage have managed to evolve and get better when RW stayed pretty much the same. I know some people expect the bands never to change, I don't.
Funny thing, I actually slept through a whole Running Wild concert despite the pyrotechnics and pirate speed metal.

Pirate Metal! :dio: real pirates, not the shit that it's Alestorm.

Classic or not Classic? Mmm, probably not, Black Hand Inn is a classic though. And I think you can't compare RW and Rage, very different style.

I didn't mean to compare the two musically, more in terms of Speed Metal as a whole. Doubt anyone would say RW beat Rage in terms of goodness.

Yep, Rage is the better band. It's amazing how only 3 people can make such wonderful music and sound so powerful live, just like Immortal.

Bullseye couldn't agree more :dio: Maybe Alestorm needs to learn from RW on how to do proper pirate metal if there is such thing as proper pirate metal

Come on, people! Alestorm have a few good/entertaining songs. After all, entertaining people with singalongs is their only purpose, isn't it? Not bad at what they do, I say.

Ho, btw, TAF, I'd rather be deaf than take another listen at that cheesy thing you call pirate metal :P

I have every Running Wild album, and the only ones that I would really consider classics are either of the first two.

I'd go with Port Royal.

Probably, but my favorite is the Black Hand Inn.

This was my first exposure to Pirate themed Metal and I haven't stopped listening to it since 2004. I blasted this stuff all the way to Tampa for Gasparilla ( a big drunken pirate fest b/c Tampa was taken over by pirates years ago)

This certainly is their most well known album. But is it their best? Not in my opinion. That honor is reserved for Death or Glory. Is this a classic? Maybe. Tough for me to call an album i dont really like a classic. But it is a very well known and highly regarded album. While being well knowm is a very small part of being a classic, the fact that so many people love this album probably means it should be a classic.
