I have finally, after such a long time, found Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri on GoodOldGames.com, and I'm having such a massive blast with it - and nostalgia has nothing at all to do with it. Even after twelve years it's still fresh, the graphics are of course dated but who cares?

For some reason that is the only Civ-type game that I've ever been able to enjoy.

GoodOldGames is so great btw. They've somehow managed to make all of their games compatible with modern computers.

Yeah, the concept is fantastic. Still waiting for a couple of games though, like Carmageddon, the Populous series, Dungeon Keeper 2 etc.

I had the same thing with Age of Empires II a while back. Damn, those childhood games can be be so fucking fun, still.

If you think about it, it's kind of illogical that a game that was incredible 5-10 years ago is now less fun because there've been other games since then. Objectively, it should still be just as fun.

Games that rely heavily on visual immersion tend to age badly. Most shooters are like that.

Co-sign on GOG.com. I've been a member since the beta and it's awesome. There's quite a few games from there I still wanna get.

SMAC !!! Does Alien Crossfire comes with it ? I need to buy this. It's been so long (what, ten ? twelve years ?). Thanks for the recommendation, this game is in my all-time top 5.

Too bad EA owns the property rights of this franchise. They seem to have no intent whatsoever to make a sequel. Even a remake would be great (even better, now that I think of it).

And now for my daily Skyrim wankery:

Here's a screenie of a Skyrim character made by a journalist:

Which makes me think that, after all and for extreme cases such as this one, death penalty is not necessarily a bad thing.
Actually this orc reminds me of Mr. T.

Other news :
- Spellmaking is out of the game (because there are 80+ spells already, they say)
- Steam seems compulsory (PC version. To be confirmed)

I meant it appears you have to register your game in Steamworks. Not confirmed yet, though.

Steam sucks, and modding steam games appears to be more difficult, dunno why.

Old games, yes. But new games meant to be used with Steam, not that I am aware of. I kinda like nowadays Steam. It's the future of PC gaming whether we like it or not, and it has some assets.

Oh and Karma, talking about Sid Meier's Alpha Fucking Centauri, here's the vid that I kept skipping because it made me so uncomfortable I wanted to weep like a girl : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lva8L-J8 ... re=related

...the Dream Twister of course.

Man you guys talking about Skyrim like it's the second coming of Christ. It's going to suck monkey balls to you all if this turns out to be all hype and nothing more.

Bethesda have never failed us. Skyrim is better than God, at least it's real.

Very well-put. Seriously, if Skyrim is just Oblivion with better graphics, I'll still be fucking jizzing my pants, and by all accounts it's going to be better on other counts as well.

Well, it's the second coming of Alduin. In my book that's even better.

No seriously, there's a nano-chance the game sucks, but 1) Bethesda has yet to let us down, 2) Mods, 3) Hands-on previews are good.

A Game of Thrones : RPG. http://www.cyanide-studio.com/games/agot/?language=en

Cyanide is making this, so it probably won't suck, but it probably won't be the awesomest thing ever made. Won't be released until next year.

The "A Game of Thrones RTS" is to be released in december I think. I'm curious about that one, but I don't have any hopes.

Tyrion, like Oddjob in Goldeneye, will have the height advantage in not being hittable.

The saddest part is I think I'd play this.

*Imagines Duke Nukem saying "Winter is coming, pal"*
