So the floodgates finally opened and we won 5-0, but still: we played 63 minutes against San Marino without scoring a goal. Not many teams can say that.

Dare we hope to qualify? If we beat Lichtenstein and the Czechs lose to the Spaniards (which seems pretty likely) we might have a chance.

Might. You still have to play Spain. IN SPAIN. They probably will be already qualified though, so you indeed have a nano-chance.

When we played Spain in Scotland we almost managed a 2-2 draw. Spain has guaranteed a first place, obviously, but it's between us and the Czechs for second place, and we might just make it, if only on goal difference.

Tie-breakers:
1. Higher number of points obtained in the group matches played among the teams in question
2. Superior goal difference from the group matches played among the teams in question

And it seems Czech Rep. beats you (0-1 and 2-2). So you'd have to have a higher number of points. But hey, it's possible.

I'm sure France would do worse.

So assuming we lose against Spain, is there still a chance?

Well, if I am not mistaken, only one case scenario would qualify Scotland (given a loss against Spain):

- Czech Rep has to lose everything (loss against Spain AND Lithuania)
- Scotland has to win against Liechtenstein (easy).
- Then Scotland, being 2nd of the group, has to beat another 2nd-ranked team.

So, there is still a chance, but Czech Rep. only needs one draw out of two matches. Tough for Scotland. This 2-2 last night, especially this non-existant penalty, is the real turning point. Football is the most unfair game on the planet, but that's part of it's beauty I guess.

While I'm at it, let's see the situation for your other beloved team, Switzerland:

1. England 17 pts
2. Montenegro 11pts (+2)
3. Switzerland 8 pts (+2)

Remaining games:
Wales - Switzerland
Montenegro - England
Then:
Switzerland - Montenegro (!!!, result of previously played Montenegro - Switzerland: 1-0)

Wow, most interesting. If Switzerland wins against Wales and wins against Montenegro by a 2-goal margin, Switzerland is 2nd no matter what. But England definitely can beat Montenegro, so Switzerland is actually not in bad shape at all.

Ah! I love qualification rounds.

Switzerland i think will be able to make it through, not Scotland tho.

Portugal still sucking ass. i haven't seen really top quality football from our side since 2004, bar some "how the fuck did we do that" displays like the 4-0 against Spain recently. but we're still topping our group.. the Nordic countries just can't cut it in the end.

Now. Barcelona already behind after a few minutes, not a situation they're placed in too often.

Didn't see any of the games tonight, but I saw Milanese managed to get a draw on the last minute, ha!

Two draws in a row for Barcelona. It equals to the apocalypse to them.

he is. another great goal for his scrapbook.

if there had been a winner last night it should've been Benfica, but a tie is not unfair, and it was a great show from two great clubs.

and Inter... lol.

Hah. Can't believe how Inter went from completely dominating Italy every year to this. They sucked last night. With this squad they will not win anything this year.

Calciocaos threw the whole league into, well, chaos. with Milan back on their game (not quite to their 2006/2007 form yet but you know), Napoli and Palermo much tougher than a few years ago and even Juventus rebuilding aggressively, they're fucked and they're going back to the Moratti-fueled shit they've always been, depending on him to sign overpriced players and achieve mediocre results. and just you wait until Sneijder gets picked up by some other club!
