Not at all, just enthusiasm and wit. Every week there are new reviews, a podcast could collect samples from those songs and brief review summaries; it could have editorial bits, humour, news, whatever. We can easily record skype convos.

Getting permission from the bands/labels in question for the featured clips on such a scale would be quite a nightmare...

I like the idea (of course), but that's quite a bit of work if done on a weekly basis. The way I see it would be a month thing, like a "recap of the month".

MR's Recaps : February '12!
and so on.

The way I see this (just throwing in ideas):

- Introduction with a badass metal tune. One that fits MR.
- if a video (on youtube for instance): logo during the intro.
- Headlines
- Reviews, with as Fridge said the reviews highlights, backed up with short samples to illustrate the words. Reviews would be audio only, the video could show the artwork, pictures, tracklist, whatever.
- advertisement for the website, with links pointing towards the full, beautiful, well written reviews. That's the idea, really. The thing would be an ad for the site. The site is the material, the podcast would be just a tool.
- Length : no more than 15 minutes. 12 for the good albums, 3 for the rest.
- Reviews shouldn't have to speak for long. 30 seconds to a minute overall for each (good album). It's no burden. Write your review, quickly record some parts of it. Send mp3s of your talking and mp3 of the tracks you're talking about to the guy who does the technical part.

I can help with technique. As long as you don't ask me to actually talk in your fucking language, I may be able to do some work for you guys. Best if I'm not alone though.

It can be done. Let's try to see how this goes, without putting it online first. What do you think?

The thought about permission for the clips crossed my mind shortly after writing... But that doesn't mean we have to scrap the whole thing. What if, for example, Zad and I debated for a few minutes over which country is more metal, Scotland or England (for a laugh)? Or if we discussed, say, issues like racism and nationalism in metal, or the influence of political ideology in the changing sphere of black metal, or fuck knows what? I've read enough books in sociology and musicology about metal to be able to create some stimulating conversation, it really wouldn't be difficult.

A "TED talks" thing? Ha!

Perhaps, but I'm out of touch with the lowest levels of the underground, and really am not an expert on sociology by any stretch of the imagination. The political thing could be interesting, but I don't see why it has to be a debate rather than eg an editorial - if we can't manage an editorial, summoning the extra effort for it is out of the window. Not rejecting the idea, just my involvement, to be honest - Rio would be a good one for the black metal politics, I've barely dipped a toe in lefty BM.

You have opinions, ideas, and are a smart fellow, if we had a conversation about it (really doesn't have to be a debate) I'm sure many interesting points would emerge. Also, whenever a reviewer has an interview with a musician, we can publish that in its original audio form. I'm shit with graphics and designing and stuff but I'm a writer and provocateur (i.e. asshole) and can do a lot to make things interesting.

I think people here know each other too well and there's not enough overlapping taste. It's only when a biggie like Opeth drops that any kind of discussion gets started.

I guess both points boil down to not enough people, and I don't really know how to bring more people in. I am useless!
