Jealous. They're playing two hours away on the 17th. Don't know if I can afford it. I can't afford Judas Priest tonight or Deafheaven/Young Widows tomorrow night. Fuck being broke.

i know how it feels man. I was able to go to this show because of the summer Job i had. Right now im broke until December 1st.

Even without growls, Opeth ruled. Got hugged by drunk strangers outside the venue afterwards... proper hippy shit. :D

Judas Priest will be playing in Singapore in February. Still 50-50 on it since Maiden might be coming back around the same time. Plus there's also a rumour of the Big 4 in Jakarta, also in February. Decisions...decisions, crap!

Anyhow, I watched Whitesnake about 2 weeks back. Jesus, Coverdale's still got at his age. Not just the singing, the jumping here and there and swinging his hips too!

Of course, a lot of people thought I was stupid to watch Whitesnake, cos Destruction were playing in Singapore the same night. Meh.

So yeah the show i went to was fucking awesome, the pit was good as usual annd i got to crowd surf 5 times and during the 5th when Greg of The Dillinger escape plan was in the pit while they were playing " Sunshine The Werewolf" i got to sing with him. I was crazy fun and im glad i got to do that at the show. Really made my night. Btw I saw mastodon and Red Fang too. Mastodon put on a pretty good show themselfs. Red Fang was the worst band out of the 3 but was still good to listen to.

Were they drunk? They look like a band that's fun to watch.

I saw them over the summer and they're kinda just a stoner rock band. DEP playing after them will definitely set you up for appearing boring in hindsight.

Got VIP tickets for Iced Earth and Symphony X when they come through Dallas, very stoked to meet Schafer and hopefully Allen/Romeo and company as well. Plus some autographed gear.

Saw the Priest Epitaph tour last night! We got their late so we missed Thin Lizzy (somehow my heart will go on). Unfortunately, we did not miss Black Label Society. It had been nine years or so since I had last listened to them (I briefly enjoyed the 1919 Eternal album, but that turned to dislike pretty quick) and wow... gotta be one of the shittiest live performances I've ever seen. The music was terrible, the band had no chemistry, and Zack Wylde played the most irritating guitar "solo" I have ever heard, which lasted ten minutes and was pure masturbation without a trace of melody. I also loved how despite the fact that he is the lead singer and guitarist and was in the center of the stage, he needed to remain on an elevated platform the whole time. HE IS THE CENTER OF THE BAND GUYS. Awful stuff.

And then Priest came on! It was a brilliant show. I miss KK Downing but the new guy filled his shoes as well as he could. I could quibble about some of the songs they selected (why four from British Steel and only one from Sad Wings and one from Stained Class?) but overall the setlist was fantastic, with at least one song from every album (well, every non Ripper album... Poor Tim Owens). Got to hear quite a few gems, from Victim of Changes to an awesome new version of Diamonds and Rust to Blood Red Skies to Beyond the Realms of Death, along with the awesome live staples like Painkiller, Heading out to Highway and Hellion/Electric Eye. The band's energy, and particularly Halford's, was also much higher than the last time I saw them, on the Nostradamus tour. What I loved most of all though was the nostalgic atmosphere that they really effectively set up... Hearing Halford talk about metal history and individual songs is pretty touching. Awesome work, Priest, and you will be missed.

Any good? They're in Louisville in December.

Two of the more important venues around here just shut down. Fucking Kentucky.

The TUI Concert or How I Learned that Straight Edge People are Fucks.

Went to see Trapped Under Ice, Backtrack, Take Offense, Hundreth and Betrayal on Thursday night.

The original venue is closing and so this show had to be moved last minute and so the guys found a new upstart venue out in the suburbs, a ballet dance studio.

Take Offense plays awesome hardcore with thrash riffs. Couldn't tell if the guitarist was a skin or not. He had his oi! boots and jeans rolled up. Betrayal is fucking boring. Backtrack's recent album Darker Half is pretty awesome but live they weren't that great. All the while, I'm kinda pissed off because people are doing hardcore moshing which essentially is eight dudes standing in the circle swinging their fists like they are trying to start a lawnmower. It's fucking absurd looking. I prefer metal pits where people are shoving into each other and at worst, a friend grabs you and runs with you. One guy thought he would be cool and was running into the walls and put a hole in one wall and ran into a wall of mirrors as if it wouldn't shatter. Luckily it didn't. We're not going to be able to use this venue in the future. Whatever, fuck hardcore moshing.

Hundreth plays awesome melodic hardcore and I never fucking like melodic hardcore. During their set, though, I was surprised by tons of people running up to where the band was playing and out the back door of the venue. I think it's like Kvelertak running through Converge's set streaking but I was wrong. One of my friend comes up to where my other friends and I were standing, watching Hundreth and begins telling us how we need to get the fuck out of there fast because SOSF came in and started beating the shit out of people, saying that some guy was just laying on the ground getting his face kicked in. I begin hearing screaming and turn around to see eight huge guys or so wearing black carhart jackets and ski masks barge in. One guy punches the sound guy in the side of the head. Hundreth stops playing and their is an awkward stare down between the crowd listening to the music, which is a much larger crowd than the group who got beat up in the other room where the merch was being sold. Everybody huddles up by the stage keeping their distance and the guys leave after a few seconds of shoving people.

My friends and I stay put, hoping TUI will still play, and the venue guy comes over and says they won't and so we start to walk out and there is a guy covered in his own blood, looking like Akerfeldt at 2005's Wacken, soaked in blood; it covering his white shirt entirely. I bumped into him and instantly felt sick. One guy's whole left side of his face was covered in blood. One girl was saying how she just watched her friend get repeatedly punched in the face and she was too small to do anything but everyone else who could have helped ran away. Cops and ambulances began showing up as I was walking out.

Prior to this, I had no idea about SOSF or Courage Crew (learned wtf this stupid hardcore bullshit was through urban dictionary the next day) but the fact that the fuckers made me miss seeing TUI makes me fucking hate them.

That sounds unpleasant. I'm glad the hardcore scene here doesn't have anyone like that so I only here stories about hardcore-types being violent doofuses.

I'm surprised that I've never actually encountered these people, given some of the shows I've been to (Magrudergrind, DRI), but I guess none of them were straight-up hardcore shows. I'm glad though. Sounds like a bad time.

I used to follow the Erie, pa hardcore scene quite a bit and have seen some SOSF at shows, but nothing ever really got to out of hand like your story thank god.. A few fights here and there that were pretty quickly extinguished .. But there has always been a bit of hip hop influence on the hardcore scene so it isn't to surprising that little gangs do get formed.. I am not supporting it , really it is pretty lame in my eyes.. I mean how dumb is it seeing guys taking runs at girls and just hitting people they know won't do anything to retaliate. I still can get off to a breakdown and gang chants from time to time , but the overall mentality of the scene definitely led me to stray from that deal.... Sorry you had to deal with that shit and I am glad you and your friends didn't get fucked up for no reason.......

Eagerly awaiting dances to be announced for the Behemoth/Watain/Devil's Blood tour and the announcement of the Rockstar Mayhem fest lineup. Rumors are claiming Slayer, Anthrax, Motorhead and As I Lay Dying as the mainstage.

Seeing Anthrax, Testament, and Death Angel on the 4th.
