I think his plan was to add size, no? Erik Cole, Rene Bourque both big guys that can skate. Sure they are far from the best big bodied forwards out there, but they are far from the worst. It's not easy to get prime young talent in the NHL anymore. Teams all want them, and make you pay a fortune to get them. I'm looking at Phil Kessel and his 50+ points so far this year as I type. At least Gauthier didn't trade for Gomez... You guys should make a statue if he can trade him away though.
Miss you Brahm.
Miss you too! Haven't been around here nearly enough.
Ya, that might be Gauthier's plan, and the Cole trade has worked out very well so far. But at the same time, he's traded our best playoff player, who is having a bad year, but then again, so is Bourque. He fired our coach before a morning skate and replaced him with a new one right before three of the toughest games of our schedule. He traded for Kaberle, tying up our salary cap problems even more and not fixing our power play, just like it happened in Boston and Carolina. It's also the manner in which he's been doing everything: He traded Cammy in between periods the day after Cammy said something controversial to the media, which is classless as fuck and terrible for team morale, he created this stupid language issue which he must have known was coming when he hired a unilingual coach and then threw Cunneyworth to the wolves.
And ya, you're absolutely right- there are no Kessels out there right now (unless Jeff Carter actually does want that trade, but he's injured). All the more reason to be patient, not trade left and right, and see how you can rebuild/what becomes available.
If Gauthier can trade Gomez, all is forgiven, ha.
