Insanely high priced for a game that had reportedly major balance flaws on release.

I'm hopeful the game is good, cheap, and features a lot more content in about two years from now, when I do pick it up.

I have two level 60 characters in Diablo 3 and I can assure you guys, it's a bad game, it's a reeeeally bad game. The only reason I played it so much on release is because I, just like everyone else, desperately wanted it to be just as great as Blizzard's previous games. A lot of people still live in the illusion that it's a good game, but it's not.

Your post pretty much sums it up, don't you think? The game is considered bad by people who worshipped the first two. Yet you have two level 60 characters. And yet it is scored 88 on metacritic.com, based on 79 critics. Doesn't sound that bad to me.

But not only I don't blame you, but I hear you. I feel the same towards Civilization V, which is scored 90 based on 70 critics. Huge fan of the previous ones, which led to a huge disappointment for me (and many, many others) when they changed half the gameplay. But to be fair, the game isn't bad per se. It's just not what it used to be.

Maybe you are feeling the same way about Diablo 3?

Diablo 3 is fun but right now I doubt its longevity. It helps to have friends to play it with but once I hit 60 and beat Hell I lost motivation to grind it out in Inferno. Gonna be a long grind for gold and equipment since Inferno is plain ridiculous, only to beat the same four acts I've already beaten three times with this character.

I really think the Auction House killed much of the "reward" you get from playing an item based game such as Diablo.

Still, it's fun up to that point and you can get a pretty good number of hours of enjoyment before you get there.

How many hours does it take to reach lvl 60?

When I'm tempted to buy a game, I consider the $ per hour ratio with the following rule of thumb:

>1 = Total rip off
0.8-1 = borderline
0.5-0.79 = decent
0.25-0.49 = good
<0.25 = Total must buy, ASAP.

The problem isn't that it's different from D1 and D2, it is genuinely a bad game. The reason that it has a fairly high rating is because people WANT to like it. There are so many things about Diablo 3 that are shit that I can't even be bothered to list them all, but the main problem, I think, is the fact that you don't get rewarded for playing it. First of all, level ups don't give you anything, usually you get a skill or a rune, but 99% of the time it is a shit skill/rune so it doesn't feel like a reward, plus you don't get to choose attributes. Also, levels almost don't matter at all because you get like 3 to every attribute per level... so the only thing that makes characters different from each other is gear. Which brings me to my next point, like I said, I have 2 level 60's, despite of that I have never found a good item, not even when I killed the final boss in the game on Hell difficulty, I've killed him several times since then and have found nothing remotely useful. Blizzard fanboys try to justify this with stupid arguments like: "It's working as intended" as if that would somehow make the game better.

Hmm, I think it takes about 20 hours game time to reach 60. Maybe a bit more. I played almost 5 hours per day for 7-8 days on release, I haven't touched the game since.

It's taking me a lot longer than 20 hours, I have a Barbarian around 45 right now and I've played the guy for at least 30 hours. And that's just one character.

If you buy it, make sure you have a fixed group of friends to play it with.

That is good advice... fucking around with friends on Skype is like 75% of the fun of playing Diablo 3.

Just finished Portal (the first one) and the coop rooms of Portal 2 with the nephew. Good stuff, harder than the Portal 2 solo. I'm ageing though, my 15-year old nephew is much quicker than me. Bah.

As for friends playing Diablo 3, I don't have them. My friends are way past gaming (one day I'll kill them all, I promise.)

My cousin and I still need to finish the bonus levels for Portal 2 co-op. Last time we played we were stuck on a level for like half an hour and called it a day.

Just got bored enough to download and figure out Pokemon Pure White after Frig mentioned it a year or so ago. Figuring out how to run it now.

For those like me who still haven't played it: Deus Ex : HR Augmented Edition for 9.99 euros on Steam, till Monday. Just bought it. Steam deals are the best. Now I'm waiting for a cheap Mass Effect pack with all 3 games and all DLCs (if there are any).

Also, A DLC for Civilization V has been released, and I'm told it is actually quite good (which only means it makes the game what it should have been on release, almost two years ago). Must... resist...

I've started Deus Ex HR and am enjoying it a lot, very much like an updated version of the original. Not up to any of the infamous boss fights yet, taking my time and loving it.

I bought it when I saw it at €14.99 on gamekeys4u.com instead of €29.99 on Steam. I just couldn't resist you know?

I finally downloaded some graphics enhancing mods for Fallout New Vegas, and I'm finally starting to enjoy it. Vanilla FNV's crap graphics prevented me from being immersed in the world like Fallout 3, which meant I never finished it despite being super stoked about it and buying it on release.

I still have to try the Hardcore mode, which sounds fun. Do you have a link for the mods you're talking about? I have fond memories of that game, one of the vaults is legendary. Pure genius.

I'm using a massive HD texture pack (about 7GB for the large version, but you can also download a medium and small version according to your system specs) and New Vegas Skies Enhanced, plus a small mod for extra memory allocation. You can find all of these in the top 10 mods for New Vegas at the Nexus. Especially the skies mod is fantastic, it also adds stuff like tornadoes, sand storms, massive thunderstorms etc.

Edit: both of these mods are also compatible with DLC, which I'll be picking up at the upcoming summer sales.
