Of all teams, Malcolm Subban had to be picked by the Bruins.

Besides, everyone seems to agree the Pens stole the show, but I'm more impressed with Washington's night.
In: Mike Ribeiro, Filip Forsberg and Thomas Wilson
Out: Cody Eakin and a 2012 2nd-round pick

They probably will have to let a forward go but, nice.

That WSH trade was robbery.

As for the Canes trade. I don't know, I was shaking with anger when we lost Sutter. But in all fairness we get a much better player in Jordan Staal. He will probably also sign here long term which is nice, but he can now demand whatever he likes.

If Pens had drafted Grigorenko or Forsberg this trade would have been much harder to swallow. They also get an top shelf future d-man.

All in all this will mean that we will likely keep Jordan and Eric way beyond their contracts. Marc will probably also join sometime in the future.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have made a "Monster" trade by trading Jonas Gustavsson to the Winnipeg Jets for a 7th round pick next year.

The Tampa Bay Lightning acquire Benoit Pouliot from the Boston Bruins for a prospect and a pick.

What do you think of Burke's move with his 1st pick yesterday (Morgan Rielly)? I was surprised...

Luke Schenn traded to Philly for JVR. Two more brothers united.

We do seem to be quite loaded with d-men but with Schenn gone now I guess it's not as surprising.

So that's probably why Rielly was picked yesterday.

EDIT: Also, I feel your pain DW. Future A. Young kid, hard to let go.

I'm pumped for JVR, don't get me wrong. His playoff numbers are huge, he's only 23, was a higher pick than Schenn, and fills our giant need of big bodies up front. But why Luke? Why not Franson or Blacker or Komisarek or Phaneuf or Holzer? I understand that you need to give to get, but I'm sure Philly would of took Franson and a 2nd to 4th round pick for JVR.

When the Flyers win the cup, it'll be because of a big hit Schenn threw or a big shot block in OT. He may not put up points, but that's not why he was drafted. I'm gonna miss him. A lot. Fuck. JVR better get 30+ goals this year. Fuck.

Why Luke? Our future captain. Goddamn. I like the trade and I hate it so much. I'm torn.

So does that mean it was a good trade?

It's the typical "change of scenery" trade. Both players didn't live up to their management's expectations, though starting Schenn right away in the NHL wasn't something I was crazy about.

My GF just got home from Cuba. She also stopped by Toronto. Lovely city from what I hear. Oh and she got me a Leafs jersey! Pretty cool! I like the Leafs.

Anyway, DW, don't you think Rielly was part of this? And how do you think he will compare with Schenn in the future? I think Burke did this because he didn't get Staal. JVR probably has a better offensive upside. Also, you mention a bunch of other good D-men you could have given up. I think you're more or less covered on the back end.

And talk about being torn. I still am, but I think it's a good thig. Sutter will adress the media today. He was apparently still in shock yesterday, hence no comments yet.

I like Rielly, projected to be the best offensive talent in the draft for d-men. Comparing him to Kris Letang is never bad in my books, but that's the thing, we've got offensive minded d-men already. Not that you can ever have too many, but Schenn was our true future shut-down d-man. Holzer is the closest thing to him, and he's still a huge wild card. I liked what I saw from Schenn. Smooth skater, good first pass, big hits, and the ability to control other teams top players. Players usually don't hit their prime until 26 or 27 years old, I think Schenn will be an absolute beast one day on the Flyers back-end.

But again, we needed a JvR type player and we got one. I'm just fearing the day we meet the Flyers in the playoffs and a Schenn is knocking Kessel on his ass all series long.
