That's a fail of epic proportions.

ouch!

as for 1996... ah!! as i recall, 1996 was the only time Juan Antonio Samaranch didn't end the whole thing by stating they were "the best Games ever"

He couldn't, because of the bomb attack. The officials weren't top-notch either, but overall the show was great.

@Meta: No. :D

It's actually become quite the big deal here. Our first medal in soccer in like 75 years.

Nice :dio:
Here it's hardly talked about, partly because the girls reached the basket-ball final today, and partly because nobody cares about Olympic Games football anyway, let alone women's. The France vs. Canada match was broadcasted by an obscure channel, I don't think there was even a million people who saw it.

Since we're talking about Olympic games, I thought of something today I want to ask you: are Canada, USA and Sweden teams filled with the best players for the Olympic Games, or is it the same crap than with the World Championship? Is the season scheduled in a manner that takes the Olympiad into account?
I remember having seen Martin Brodeur and Mario Lemieux a few years ago (maybe it was Nagano 1998, I don't remember well), but I didn't follow Winter Olympics that closely since then. (Only biathlon, a sport I worship since I'm a kid for some reason.)

edit: did some research for the 2010 Olympics, Canada, US and Finland lineups were badass. The Canadian one is fucking scary, haha.

Yeah, since 1998 the NHL goes on a temporary break for the Olympics which allows the players to play for their respective countries. The players that play in the WC are good but not elite level like the Olympic players because usually they're busy playing in the NHL playoffs.

Just think of how good team Canada will be in 2014.

Stamkos, Crosby, Giroux, Weber, Perry, Staal(s), Getzlaf, Nash, Carter, both Richards, Hall, Eberle, Nugent-Hopkins, etc..

That's if we even go.

We still have Renaud Lavillenie (pole vault), Yohan Diniz (50km), Julien Absalon (bike), men's handball, and some other dudes I don't shit about but who are strong and who are all potentially gold medalists. Wait and see!

@Meta and Wally: cool :dio:

Well, so much for Steve Hooker.

You win this round, France.

What a fine final that was. Too bad Steve Hooker couldn't join the fun, but he won everything already in his career anyway.

Yeah, synch. swim. is extremely difficult, extremely impressive, and also extremely boring. Once every four years is enough.

Lots of nice asses though.

That's right. Why are you so eager to see them finished? It's not like there was some hockey to watch instead.

Don't worry, Canada will be less crap at the winter games.
