I should check this out. Beyond Slough Feg, I never hopped on the retro metal train, but I have always heard good things about these folks.

These guys are not quite as good as Slough Feg, and also much more derivative than Slough Feg. Where you could say Slough Feg has their own sound, these guys really are just emulating old bands and nothing more.
They do it very well, which is why I've given this a 79, but these guys are really more for established fans of the retro style, rather than someone looking to get into it.

If you're looking to explore quality retro-styled heavy metal which still has it's own sound, I would probably point you towards RAM, Enforcer or Grand Magus.

Try these:

RAM - Lightbringer
Enforcer - Diamonds
Grand Magus - Iron Will

I agree with thrash. If you want to check these guys out, pick up Metal Nation which IMO is there best. I like this album better than their last, but not really inspired to go any further with them.

I prefer Metal Nation and Legends to Crimen Excepta but overall I don't feel that I would describe any of those three as poor albums. The vocalist's voice is different than most female singers going today and I could see how it could turn some people off to the band but I feel her voice works well.
