According to ABC News, Disney just bought LucasFilm, and have announced Star Wars: Episode 7 for 2015, with intent to make more sequels. I used to be a massive Star Wars fan, and I've read practically all the post-Episode 6 novels and comics, so this announcement kind of rocks my world. That being said, recent history doesn't exactly inspire confidence, judging by the prequels and Clone Wars TV show. And Disney? Marvel Studios operates independently enough, but they've basically turned Pixar into another "Disney Princess" generator, so I don't know what to expect there.

Thoughts? Anyone else think this is going to be a total bomb or just another mediocre film?

The new movies are supposed to be about Ben and Luke.

Anyone read the synopsis of the script lucas wrote that told the beginning of the story:

"a whole bunch of sith lords are walking around arguing about a lightsaber they found allegedly belonging to Darth Vader. In walks a shadowy figure and he slaughters them all and says 'This belonged to my grandfather' and exits"

There are supposed to be Sith War droids, which was the design of the Darth Vader suit.

I read that the timeframe this was to occur in has been encroached by the expanded universe but was for a very long time untouchable because it was the timeframe of episodes VII-IX, as was the official policy, that no EU content could take place then since it was reserved.

It has long been rumoured Rick was going to continue the franchise after Lucas retired or died.

I love all of the Star Wars films, so I am very happy about this.

What the fuck are you talking about? Ben as in Luke's son? This film should be Truce at Bakura, then the Courtship of Princess Leia and lead into the Thrawn Trilogy.

Sorry man, it was all planned out long ago that Episodes VII-IX were to take place when Luke and Leia are old and not after the Battle of Yavin.

It was only until very recently that they opened up that time period to be explored in the EU, which means they are going to push the events back a little further so it doesn't interfere.

Then again Lucasfilms, a subsidiary of Disney, has absolutely no incentive to protect the assets of Lucasbooks, George's publishing firm that has handled the books since the Thrawn Trilogy.

I absolutely do not want to see any part of the EU made into a movie. It should be George's original intent of "The Fall" "the redemption of the father" then "The redemption of the son"

You bet it can be good. Marvel certainly hasn't suffered under Disney. Yet.

We all know the only way to go. Yuuzhan Vong. Gritty, dark, violent survival fights with the Jedi and Empire remnants. Hoo-yah.

I wouldn't believe any "reports" about what the story is going to be at this point. Very curious to see who would direct it.

I'm surprised at how much interest this has generated, and how much everyone seems to know about the SW universe.

I wish I could read the Yuuzhan Vong as anything but a really badly veiled allegory for Islamic terrorism. They are such fucking badasses, but it is like the worst spoon feeding at the hands of a sci fi story ever. Plus, the ending was so fucking stupid. They didn't even beat the Vong, they just found the Vong's god and asked it to ask them to leave, right?

And, in terms, of a movie on the Vong, the whole New Jedi Order storyline would require so much backstory to get to that point. I can't imagine skip thirty years, Empire is busted, Jedis are back around, all the folks you love have kids and bam evil s and m demon aliens are attacking.

I can only imagine what horrible things Disney could do to Star Wars, but the series hasn't produced anything respectable since Return Of The Jedi.
But this made me think: maybe there could be a Disney character Star Wars crossover game like Kingdom Hearts?
It might be cool, maybe.

Okay guys, here's how they're going to make a billion gazillion dollars.

Option 1: Remake original series with the following cast:

Robert Downey Jr: Han Solo
Ryan Gosling: Luke Skywalker
Anne Hathaway: Leia Organa Solo
Patrick Stewart: Obi-Wan Kenobi
Ron Perlman: Darth Vader

Option 2: Marvel universe - Star Wars crossover. Mace Windu: Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.

I can't tell if you're being serious or not, but it definitely won't be a remake.

And, I have hope insofar as Disney hasn't fucked up Marvel entirely so this could be good.

Disney owns the Muppets! Muppet Star Wars!

Seriously though, I would really like to see some of the smart, dark expanded universe stuff being drawn on for inspiration. Like the Thrawn trilogy, as Trapt has mentioned. Or remember those awesome trailers for The Old Republic? Something like that. Get Tarantino to direct it and have a stupidly violent film with lightsaber hilts smashing through skulls and shit.

I heard joss whedon <---(I don't know if I spelled that right and I don't feel like checking. Even though I wasted more time making a fucking arrow and writing than I would of checking. I'm a asshole.) is directing it. I can't verify but that's what I heard.

If they go old republic I will cum in my pants. For real though the expanded universe and the knights of the old republic games have so much to draw from. I will be so happy if they go that route but...but....but it won't happen because I want it to.

Oh and while we are talking joss...

Wtf can't they make more firefly episodes. I hate it when great shows get cancelled. Wtf

I bring that up because there is a firefly reunion on sci fi that aired or is going to air.
