Fuck Tarantino. But yeah, it would be weird having old Harrison Ford trying to be Han Solo. Definitely awkward so it would have to be a reboot to some degree. Unless they jump crazy far forward and follow Jacen and Jaina with gray haired Ford and Hamill playing background roles.

Well, I don't mean to give away spoilers, but the fact is this has been known for a few years now:

Jacen, Chewie and Mara Jade are dead. People have been acting like those characters are going to be involved when they can't be. I don't know what I have to say to get people to understand that the sequel trilogy is going to be written based off George's story drafts and he has said that the sequel trilogy would be based on Ben Skywalkers fall and redemption. I mean seriously, that is from the horses mouth and any other speculation is just not accurate at all. George discussed this heavily in the 80's and up until yesterday recanted any rumors of there being any sequels at all.

I can see this coming a mile away. Everyone writing a script in their minds just like when the prequels came out and since they did not make everyone's personal wet dream into reality people are going to be disappointed. It is such bullshit to treat the franchise this way.

The prequels were great if you read the books before seeing the movie because the books were far more of the story than Lucas could put in the film and they were written based on his original screenplays anyway. I absolutely hate that people actually expected the impossible for the prequels and that anything that deviated from it was ill-regarded.

I have no idea why everyone thinks the original characters are not coming back. The last EU novel takes place around 45 years after the first movie, which makes the actors slightly too young to reprise their roles as a matter of fact, not too old. Luke and Leia are about 65 in the novels current timeline. There is no reason they have to be THE central characters and no reason they can't film all their stuff before 2015 to be included later if there is actually real concern over their age and ability to remain alive. Obi-Wan was in the entire OT, but had a minor if significant role in the second and third movies. At no time was anyone concerned that Alec was going to die and leave the whole project fucked. Why is there the assumption that this is true now?

All in all, George is writing the outline of the trilogy and is going to be the story consultant, meaning no one is going to argue with what he wants to do since no one has the balls or the right to do so. He has made his intentions abundantly clear and arguing with it is going to lead to another disappointing trilogy for people that can't seem to resolve the fact that their version of the story is not what they are going to paying to see.

I would much rather have an Old Republic movie, before anyone named Skywalker arrived on the scene. Hell, just convert the first KOTOR into a movie.

Just because Jacen eventually dies doesn't mean they couldn't do a film at which point before he dies, and if there is a film with Ben surely it will have his cousins, Jaina and Anakin. Or maybe not in which case it would be stupid, but with those two it would maintain the classic vibe of a gang.

This is interesting, but until I see who is writing/directing it I don't know whether to be excited or not.

Pretty much every re-release of the trilogy on DVD/Blu-Ray almost feels like a remake.

Didn't see this thread for some reason, but I've been discussing this with friends for a couple of days. From what I've read, there won't only be 3 new movies, Disney plans to shit out another film somehow based in the SW universe every 3 years.

Conclusions:

1) Could be the best thing ever, or the worst. Will probably end up being both. If they follow through with a new film every 3 years, it'll end up like the bond series. There will be good periods and bad periods, cyclically, depending on the producers, directors, actors etc. that are invloved. Sometimes it will seem like the series is going down the shitter only to reinvent itself for a new generation.

2) Lucas is the world's biggest whore. You remember how he always used to prattle on about how Star Wars is "his baby"? He used those exact words. It was well reported that Spielberg wanted to direct one of the prequels, but Lucas said he couldn't let him because "star wars is my baby". It's on the special features of the Episode I dvd. Then he said the same thing when people criticised him for tinkering with the original trilogy so much. He basically told anyone who didn't like it to fuck off because it was his baby and it needed to match his vision and only his. Then one day, out of the blue, disney comes along with 3 billion dollars, and he immediately agrees to exclude himself from all future association with his baby. 3 billion dollars - that's the price Lucas would sell his own babies for. If I ever make that kind of money, I'll buy one of his grandchildren. Just to say I did.

Well, you'll probably be surprised to hear the he's donating most of the money to charity.

I was reading it on a local website though, so they probably converted into Australian dollars which are worth more than US dollars at the moment.

It's a shame all this "clone wars" shit I have been ignoring might as well be non-canon. Then again it isn't such a shame because it saved me a lot of time I would spent watching this crap. I am going to continue to assume any EU that is made made specifically for Children to be non-canon as it has always been in my mind. Those stories always contradict canon because there is the assumption that people that follow the canon will ignore them and their target audience is not interested in the EU as a whole.

Seriously, nearly 20 years of perfect canon was totally fucked over by this stupid cash grab movie and TV show. It does not make me hopeful for the future. The companies that made the books and comics have been very good at working together with Lucas's people and with the Clone Wars, they flat out didn't give a shit made it up as they went along.

Umm yeah I don't really care too much about pre-trilogy canon. I think the Young Jedi Knight series that tracked Jacen and Jaina was legit. And it flowed into the New Jedi Order rather well.

Edit: That chronology reminded me of the Ulic Qel-Droma, Exar Kunn and Naomi Sunrider storylines. Those were awesome.
