No, not really. Not this time, just like Iraq didn't take two to tango at all. We just decided to fuck the UN resolutions and go bombing and made fake evidence to justify it in the leadup.

Today I participated in two rallies in support of Gaza and marched to the White House and spent an hour or so out in front of it. I am a bundle of propaganda now. I'll admit that this is what my buddy has filled me up with in terms of info for the last twelve hours so feel free to disagree. Basically, the guy they killed that started this worked on writing a peace resolution alongside Egypt while both parties were at the table with Egypt trying to broker a deal. Israel wouldn't back down on the fact that much of the land they took since 1968 are illegal settlements and so they left the discussion only to immediately kill that guy who worked on a treaty. So Israel reaches a truce with Hamas and then assassinates the Hamas negotiator when he thinks its safe to go outside, and then starts bombing the Gaza strip.

And people outside of Palestine wonder why the Palestinians are pissed. It doesn't matter who shot rockets first. Palestinians don't have enough water to drink let alone grow crops. Israel blockades the country, calculating the calories admitted into the country, keeping the imports at the very precise number to keep them barely above starvation. The very things that the earlier article mentions stripping the Palestinians of: water, food, electricity; these are all things which Hamas has worked to provide for these people. They call it a terrorist organization, but these people were fucking elected and they are doing a damn good enough job in the people's eyes that they will probably be elected again, despite Israel threatening war.

Today, we marched from the state dept to the white house past all these memorials and federal buildings through DC. When we reached the white house, Israeli supporters had organized and were waiting. About 200 of us and about 100 of them. We had signs listing the number of dead, chants of apartheid and oppression, speakers listing off the UN violations that Israel perpetrates (white phosphorous bombs are one of seventy possible violations that they are under question for. Iraq was invaded after two). The Israeli supporters weren't demonstrating as demonstrators do. They were laughing and dancing as stories were told by people who had lived in Palestine in the past, who had seen the results of bombings, who knew people who had died, the things that they had witnessed. The Israeli supporters were chanting USA and singing songs and dancing as if they had won a football match. It was horrifying.

Anyway, they can eat each other alive for all of me.

it's terrible that the people who are being injured and killed want peace in the region, unfortunately it seems extremists within both the Israeli and Palestinian governments want to exterminate every living being in the other's country and so only the elimination of either every member of Hamas or the eradication of every man, woman and child in Israel will bring peace to the region, the situation in the middle east just seems to escalate every year and it's all totally unnecessary, the UN could quite easily bring peace to the region by cutting off aid to the countries sparking the conflict and restricting their resources, in fact I don't understand why the UN hasn't done that already

Steve may be putting things indelicately, but he makes a valid point.
Neither side truly wants peace, and it's sad that innocents have to suffer. But do any of you honestly see this ever ending well?
There aren't any good guys in this, and as cruel as it sounds, the sooner they just finish their business the better off everyone will be in the long run. It's kind of difficult to spin this ugly situation delicately. They hate each other. And their mutual actions ensure that hatred will continue to be reciprocated for a long time to come.

The potential for these two groups bringing the entire world into war is the only real concern I have at this point.

The thing that pisses me off (as I mentioned) is the potential for a wider conflict. These assholes need to start getting their act together, and that goes for both sides.

I agree. Have gone through periods of sympathy for either, both, and now neither, both are reliant on each other to hold onto power as that article I posted earlier said. Tough on the civilians on both sides, and tough on me having family out there...
