Shotgun is the perfect firearm for home protection.

Virgina has open carry laws, dumbass. Ohio has conceal and carry. How does shooting an assailant equal defending myself? I am too draw down on a guy OK corral style. Fucking high noon that shit?

A shotgun, not an AK, could be construed as home protection. But how often do house burglaries happen? And could you guys describe a case where having gun protects someone in the house? Like you here someone downstairs, you peer down the stairs and pop off a round before this guy sees you, but also presumably before you can identify him?

The beauty of the shotgun is, chances are you won't have to fire a shot... who wants the cocking mechanism's signature sliding double click to be the last thing they hear?

@V: I could see the firing pin sound being a deterrent. Only if the burglar recognizes the sound and doesn't spin around to shoot where the sound came from. Having played paintball in the woods many a times, it isn't so inconceivable to spin around when you hear a branch snap and fire in that general direction, and if they have a sawed off...

Well it doesn't really specify why they were arrested, so I don't know... last I heard we were still allowed to assemble and protest, as long as it is done without any disorderly conduct or other illegal activities. There could be a dozen reasons why some arrests were made, so I cannot realy comment on that.

Another thing that makes the shotgun ideal for home defense: shooting at the range with a glock or .45 is one thing, but it's not as easy as the movies make it look. One slight twitch, and the shot is astray, and with 10,000 volts of pure electric adrenaline whipping through your nervous/muscular system, that could be the difference between a hit and a miss.

Point is: the shotgun is a point and shoot firearm, with ample force to put an end to any shenanigans.
