Strikeforce? I remember watching a couple of their events years back but the cards were so weak I wrote them off as a second rate UFC imitator still you hate to see a company go under like that

They were bought by the UFC owned company Zuffa. Zuffa also bought PRIDE, WEC, and the WFA. Basically you get big at all and Zuffa buys you and absorbs all the top talent.

I can see them purchasing Bellator or putting them out of business in the next few years.

I'd normally say that sort of Monopoly is bullshit, but in this case it works out nicely for the consumer because everyone wants to see the best fighters against the best fighters without any red tape. So it's hard to hate it.

Most fighters want to be in the UFC anyway, so really there's nothing to complain about. Unless your a potential MMA promoter, then really you'd be pissed.

maybe some of the Strikeforce guys who make UFC middleweight could actually challenge Anderson Silva prompting him to stick to middleweight for a bit longer, I don't know much about them really but am starting to get a bit of a feel for the current UFC landscape

There's only 3 guys in Strikeforce who could fight Silva at middleweight. One trains with Silva, so they won't fight. Other is at light heavy and said he'll only drop down to 185 if he loses at 205. The other being their current middleweight champ who'll probably need a win or two in the UFC before he challenges for the title.

Anderson Silva is not leaving middleweight entirely, he just wants his big money fights. There's still lots of fights left for him at middleweight even before Strikeforce comes over. Alan Belcher, Michael Bisping, Chris Weidman, Tim Boetsch, Brian Stann, rematches with Hendo, and Belfort.

He's got lots of options at 185, he just needs to pick somebody. Chris Weidman has the best chance at 185 to beat him. He's a scary good wrestler with sick striking skills and a jiu-jitsu game that comes out of nowhere. That's the fight that needs to happen.

Silva's striking is just plain scary though, and his jiu jitsu is a very under-rated aspect of his fighting (or at least it was way back at UFC 73) I'd like to see him go up to light heavyweight and fight Jones, I think that would be a very good fight

I know how good Silva is, I've been watching him since his UFC debut against Chris Leben, 16 fights ago. I'm just saying, there's a reason he fights at middleweight normally and not anywhere else.

The guys at Light Heavyweight, for the most part, are much bigger than him. Yes he's fought at 205 3 times already, but its not been against top 5 talent. I also want to see him fight Jones, because I think he could KO Bones, and that I'd love to see.

But he is a natural middleweight and he is the champion, he needs to defend his title against other middleweights or vacate the title.

there's bound to be a guy in middleweight who can beat Silva, he's very, very good but not invinceable, who it will be though is anyone's guess

Not necessarily. He might retire first. Not saying he's thinking of retiring, I'm just saying he might one day decide to retire before he cops another loss.

Chris "All American" Weidman.

Look up his fight against Mark Muñoz. Muñoz was expected, with a win, to get a fight against Silva. But Weidman demolished him with his wrestling in the first and KO'd him huge in the 2nd. Wrestling is one of the most dominant strengths to have in MMA.

If any current middleweight can beat The Spider, it's Weidman.

Against Yushin Okami in Hawaii, a fight in which Silva knocked Okami out but got hit with a DQ. Was in like 2004 or 2005.

is Silva troubled by wrestlers? it's been a while since I've seen one of his fights live

The wrestlers give him the hardest fights, yes. Hendo, Sonnen twice, Marquardt, and Lutter all gave Silva fits with their grappling and wrestling. Yes Silva beat them all, but they had him down and were doing damage, especially the first fight vs. Sonnen. Thing is, Weidman is way better than all of them at this point in their respective careers and is much more well-rounded.

I am not saying Weidman will beat Silva, I'm just saying out of the current crop he has the best chance.

Why?

I never understood the hate directed towards Anderson. Is it because he's just that good? I can't stand the Diaz brothers and love watching them lose, but I respect the hell out of them as fighters.

if he makes a mistake though Silva will KO or submit him so it would be a very challenging fight for both of them
