Off to watch my local team this evening, Manchester Phoenix.
NHL is dead this season and may be for ever, they have lost a lot of respect from what I read around the forums.

Got my fantasy team last night. Stacked on defence, goaltending is weak. Forwards are decent, got Giroux and Seguin, but are very young and inexperienced. Hagelin, JVR, Henrique, Kassian, etc.. it will be a sketchy season for the reigning champ.

12 teams, 2 c, 2 lw, 2 rw, 4 d, 1 u, 4 benched, 2 g.

Couple trades the last few days:

Dallas traded Mark Fistric to Edmonton for a 3rd round pick.

Carolina traded Brian Boucher back to the Flyers and traded Anthony Stewart to LA for enforcer Kevin Westgarth.

Not huge stuff, but still a trades a trade and we got 3 of them.

Leafs just traded Matt Lombardi to Phoenix for a conditional 4th round pick that can turn into a 3rd should Lombardi re-sign with the Coyotes.

So the Leafs are actually looking kinda good this season. Lead the league in hits and fights, PK is much improved, goaltending has been steady, Phaneuf logs crazy minutes and is starting to put up points, Kessel is beautiful to watch, Kadri looks like a mini-Datsyuk (jumping the gun, I know), and yeah team defence! Season is still 30 or so games and anything can happen after a bad week or two, but I'm kinda excited again.

JVR is my hero. Still miss you Luke...
