The sheer arrogance, not to mention irresponsibilty of this administration boggles the mind.
You don't go around threatening Russia, for fucks sake.

Fortunately, for all parties involved, it is an empty threat. If the US government was unwilling to intervene in Syria they sure as hell won't intervene in a place 100 times more important to Russia than Syria is.

It's actually rather unfortunate, in that a threat / warning was made in the first place. We look weak and it doesn't help that this dying nation is headed by a mom-pant's wearing bath house beta bitch. Having a squishy little titmouse at the helm of a country that has the massive responsibilty of military obligations (I dont necessarilly agree with these treaties but nevertheless we are bound by them) to protect Taiwan, South Korea every NATO country, etc . has got to have the heads of those countries feeling a little nervous; if we crumbled over Syria, what would we do if China made a move on Taiwan? Granted Taiwan's military isnt exactly weak, but China would steamroll right over them.
At least W had the good sense to keep fairly quiet about any "warnings" during the 08 Georgia crisis. WTF, Ukraine and Georgia are in Russia's backyard and Ukraine especially is vital to Russia's national defense (Black Sea fleet, etc).
How stupid and arrogant are we to meddle in this business, we are pushing Russia further and further into a corner (NATO swallowing up all those former Soviet Bloc countries, Poland missile shield, threats to Iran, Syria, etc) and it is a potentially very dangerous game.

The current gang of clowns, degenerates and botox-poisoned lunatics in DC seem intent on making fools of themselves, and (the unfortunate part) us as a nation.

Maybe we could send this guy over to Moscow to straighten Putin out.

Another nail in the coffin

Somewhere along the line, we became a nation of pussies.

All the same, two Oscar voters privately admitted that they didn't see "12 Years a Slave," thinking it would be upsetting. But they said they voted for it anyway because, given the film's social relevance, they felt obligated to do so

re 12 Years a Slave: After seeing Hunger I'm inclined to give Steve McQueen all the awards for being amazing but never watch another of his movies.

Quote:
On Saturday, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry told Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov that the Kremlin annexing Crimea would “close any available space for diplomacy.”

The warning is disconcerting because there are three general ways that this crisis could play out: Russia keeps advancing into east and south Ukraine, Russia annexes Crimea and then applies further financial and political pressure on the new government in Kiev, or Russia makes limited concessions and the crisis de-escalates.

By Kerry saying that the diplomatic window is closed if Russia annexes Crimea — which is almost a forgone conclusion — then the best path for de-escalation is obstructed

Could get interesting

Interesting indeed. I had defended the Obama era on foreign affairs generally but drawing a line in the sand on Crimea is silly. As the article notes, deescalation disappears with the annexation, and the annexation is in all likelihood going to happen. The line in the sand should be on Ukraine proper, including the key Eastern and Southern cities of Donetsk, Odessa, and Kharkiv (home of the Drudkh and Nokturnal Mortum families of bands). The Crimea is simply not Ukrainian enough to warrant the USA guaranteeing Ukrainian territorial sovereignty on the basis of it.

Seems more like a problem for Europe. At any rate Kiev has historical significance to Russia, The West as it were should step back. Still, it was a strong play and it proved there's not a whole lot we can do about things of this nature. All the media is pushing the resurrection of the USSR, and so on. But... what would we do if he moved further? I don't see him moving in on a NATO country, though to be honest, despite the fearmongering media.
That being said, this administration is in so far over their heads here it's not even funny.
Lurch needs to rest his neck and tone down the rhetoric, there's no way this country will stand for a war with Russia.

Seriously? As a British person who is Culturally Distinct from the mad thing known as US comedy*, also we invented comedy with Monty Python and shit, I can only say that was cringeworthy and unfunny.

*Seinfeld and Louie CK and Doug Stanhope and Chris Rock and The US Office are great. And I know you're Canadian so WHAT THE HELL DUDE

Fuck Zero (rhymes with Nero, which is fitting; won't be long 'til we're treated with his Hoops picks).

Where is the 'Monty Python is ok' option. I've seen a lot of the show, and all the movies, and I'm gonna with 'ok to slightly better than ok'. Seems like Monty Python always provokes strong reactions though, one way or another.

Agreed there, and we also agree that it is not 'shit'.
