The beginning origination of a genre of music that has developed nowadays into something much less recognizable, and even less, and barely identifiable as the bebop/hard-bop of the primary epoch, yet still, the contemporary sound can inspire inexhaustively, by its rich and its youthful modernism then and by its now, all deceased forefathers.

The late Corea and the present McLaughlin. Focused and virtuosic.

Will give this a listen tonight, as some jazz sounds like the right alternative to all the folk/rock I have been hearing lately.
Very impressive sequence of listening to so many greats!

Thanks, brother. Be warned, the aforementioned recording quoted here, does take a long time to punch in. It needs devotion and patience.

I will have to absorb the second disc on next listen because it washed over me during this listen. However, I loved the first disc! McLaughlin's tone is immaculate, and Christian McBride (I think I've stated he's an all-time favorite) is in top form.

It is so great to see you around, Brett. However, I liked the second disc, much more, initially, than the first disc. Now, I like them both. But I have to say that I had to stay away from the recording altogether for an extensive period of time, until I could return to it again. It is a very rich, complex and heavy live recording which certainly cannot be listened to regularly. Additionally, you have mentioned that McBride is an all-time favorite of yours, and I have to agree with you on McLaughlin's guitar tone. Glad you liked it!

A recording that carries an aural mystery to it, like no other. The melodies, the tonality, the atmosphere created, certainly does justice to the creator's 'Black Noir' distinct jazz sound.

With the quality and the quantity of material Davis has left us, it is a challenging task in itself to simply give prime priorities to a few or even a lot of them. But the production on this electronic period, here is, exceptional.

Jazz's' never grown-old ancestors and the prime holders to the immaterial estate of its grand possessors.

Enough emotion on this release to make you plead for mercy from Mr. Green and Co. to stop playing.

One of the few of the afternoon's recordings to be played

Certainly not the kind of jazz release to get comfortable with, but to be challenged by, to a considerable degree.

Sweepingly melodic and wisely constructed. A declaration of modernism in music and eclectism in orientation.

Splendorous. Out of all the jazz which I listen to, this recording is especially outstanding for its immaculate remastering, perfected composition development, and the overall quality of the cohesive nesting of its musical idioms.

Different in tone and modality in respect to the previous recording which I was listening to, from Mr. Morgan, however, the preservation of the great spirit of swinging jazz, remains wholly alive, and reasonably well.

A true announcement of modernity and materialism, one that is a great musical depiction of man's famished nature for substance and purpose in a world disarrayed and disoriented by mechanized efficiency and soulless laboring. A great masterwork in avant-garde jazz and one that will need quite a bit of work.
