Sabbath's sound about a half decade later on this release, from the heights of psychedelic music and the blues, still ring true, and reflected deeply, in both the approach to riff-making, and the fashion, in which structures are mounted, and song-writing developments, are made lucid.

Sabbath's sophomore effort is a towering musical accomplishment, timing at just over 40 minutes. In these times, that is to say, the early parts of 1970's, were still in the upkeeping of traditional musical idioms, and the language of medieval-inspired and gothic-influenced melodic manifestations, and intentioned, intensive, and the mild-tempered chord progressions, truly had no equal, when it came to the allure, and the heaviness that Sabbath were a symbol, and from which the primal stream sprung, stepped into heavy music's rich history.

Sabbath in their supremacy, as a unit of 4 musicians could set your soul on fire, without any need for flash, or flamboyance, or without causing you to feel 'happy' or necessarily making sorrowful music, but a confrontation with the truest, and the greatest degrees of reality, a listener could possibly absorb.

A work of immense talent and power. The kind of work that is a reservoir of ideas and the intimation of the very many sorts.
