Hard rock or 80's rock? I don't really consider there to be a difference in the two, but others do.

It doesn't really matter.

OK, some of my favorites:

Def Leppard (all-time favorite band)
Slaughter
Skid Row
Babylon A.D.
Tesla
Dokken
White Lion
Cinderella
Queensryche (not a metal band, really)
Motley Crue
Winger (you heard right)
Scorpions
Bar 7
Soulmotor
Moon Dog Mane
Cry Of Love
Brother Cane

Here are some good rock bands that had some kick ass releases, but also some mediocre ones:

Ratt
Warrant
White Snake
LA Guns
Quiet Riot
Lynch Mob

Umm...can't think of anymore, but that should do...

Skid Row does totally rule. Especially the last two albums with bach, the first only had a handful of great songs.

I don't know exactly what you want, cause Hard Rock is a pretty broad term, and I don't know what you have or haven't heard so there might some incredibly obvious suggestions:

Zep
Black Sabbath
Deep Purple
^ Holy trinity of heavy rock/metal.

Cream
Thin Lizzy
UFO (with Micheal Shenker anyway)
Tesla
Alice Cooper (mainly when they were still a band, not a solo act)
Van Halen (Roth, not Hagar)
Guns N Roses
Scorpions (70s stuff is more edgy, metallic, the 80s stuff is more fun and commercial)
Cheap Trick (most notably the first three albums)
Hanoi Rocks

And yeah, Winger kind of kicked ass

The self-titled third album is awesome! Not many people even noticed it, but it's got some killer tunes on it. Reb Beach plays on this album.

I even have Kip Winger's solo albums!! Hahaha. I have Mike Tramp's solo albums, too!

I mentioned White Lion! And yeah, Europe was pretty good. Danger Danger and Dangerous Toys had some good albums, too.

Do you guys consider Monster Magnet to be hard rock? I do, and they fucking kick ass (from Superjudge on).

The ZZ Top make some sweet music, as the The Clutch. The Deep Purple are also good, as are The Grand Funk Railroad, and for oldies The Creedence Cleerwater Revival (sp?). The MC5 and The Turbonegro are also sweet.

Yes, I know of Lion. Was just pointing out I gave some respect to some lion. And yeah, Danger Danger had more than one good song, but they had two really catch songs, "Naughty Naughty" and "Bang Bang!" =)

Speaking of bang, fucking Gorky Park and that song "Bang" kicked ass! Have you listened to it lately? Hilariously weird, but so good!!

LA Guns

Sorry. I was feeling too lazy to type all of them by myself today... I generally agree with those...

I'll add:

Europe
Guns'N Roses
AC/DC
Poison  (BUT only the old albums)

I surely forget some, but for now, they're the only bands that came to my mind and that I used to listen to when I was "younger".

I think the "Best of White Lion" is especially great...I must admit that I still listen to it once in a while.
And the old "Cherry Pie" of Warrant too...... but that one wasn't bad at all !!!

I like Blind Melon's album with the bee girl on the front.

They got generalized as a hippy pop rock group because of "No Rain", which is the worst song on the album. If you look past that song, the rest of the album rocks. Listen to "I Wonder", one of my favorite songs ever, and "Change". If you still don't like them after that, then move on.

Modern? Monster Magnet, fo'sho'!

Did you listen to Trixie? They recorded this in 2005, believe it or not:

Trixie - The Touch
Trixie - Escape (Clip)

Try The Coral if you want some Beatles-esque 50's/60's rock! They're from the UK, members are like ages 18-22, ridiculous how old they sound! Very good, though.

Hmmm...I don't know, can't think of any more, that 500 capacity CD rack that toppled over last month or so was part of my "Rock" rack! Hahaha...so, they're all piled in a corner.

Some more for the "good rock bands that had some kick ass releases, but also some mediocre ones" category:

LA Guns
Kix

And you people may shit when I say this, but Bon Jovi has always released some good music. The early shit was pretty fxcking sweet for 80's rock, though at the time I pretended to hate it because my sister and mother were obsessed, but now I can admit that that shit was good! Hahaha. The newer stuff is more of the mediocre variety, which I'm not much of a fan of, but it's good for what it is, I guess.
