Wow. Coming off of Archetype, which I thought was awesome and a big return to quality, Transgression was a bit of a slap in the face. 540,000 Fahrenheit, as everyone has said, is just fantastic. The next couple are okay, and then it just hits a terrible low. I'd never even noticed the quality of Moment Of Impact before, being so dragged down by the middle of this CD. Listening to it now though, it is actually pretty good, and Burton does some sweet stuff with his vocals on this track. On the whole though? I think he should shift away from his really clean singing voice, because it just does not sound good to me in anything more than short bursts. I'd give this album 40/100.

Sadly, I saw in Metal Hammer that it got 8/10. I weep for the youth of the world.

Well, fuck Metal Hammer.

That's the last time I spend money on that piece-of-fucking-shit rag. I bought this month's issue for Apokalyptic Raidz and the vintage Sepul poster.

you wasted your money, just as i did to buy the ''Battle Metal" edition. RR probably paid Metal Hammer to give 'Transgression' a higher score and good review.

I usually allow a band to produce 1 shitty album in their lifetime and that is it. Transgression is equivalent to Megadeth's "Risk"...but not near as bad. This is Fear's official shitty album and it had better be their ONLY shitty album. Lol, I still call it an album, I'm old. Anyway, tracks 1, 3, 4, 10 & 11 are worthy tracks to listen to. My favorite track would be 540,000 Degrees Fahrenheit. I can tell that they tried to go back to their Obsolete sound but failed. Not near as aggressive and the drumming is much more tame. In fact, the drumming sounds completely different than anything else they have produced prior to Transgression. I gave "I will Follow" about 30 seconds before deleting the track. After I was done with my personal edits the total track listing comes to 8 total tracks. That is the beauty of MP3s, you make a shit album into something of worth. I like to pretend that "I Will Follow" was never recorded. I think that the tour with Megadeth and Dream Theater heavily influenced this album. Stick with what you do best FF and stop trying to be experimental, it isn't working.

48/100 is a rating I agree with. Don't buy this album, trust the review. Maybe the low sales will have a "Moment Of Impact" on their future endeavors.

Archetype was so badass...what the hell went wrong??? Did Mustaine try to give them some pointers? Bah.

Quit living in the past!!

Anyway, I still don't own this album. There's no way I'm paying more than $5 for it. No way.

As for Risk, not really a bad album, just mediocre. There are a few good songs on it.

I've completely changed my mind about this album. Fine, crap production and strange choice of tracklisting, but hardly the nu-metal bollocks that Aaron said. Listening to this after Soul Of A New Machine, the rawness compares well... deserves at least a 70.

I actually really like the album.
Yes, it's not their best and you have to kind of forget it's Fear Factory, but once you get past that it's not that bad.
The production isn't top notch either but there are definitely some great songs on there.

Hurray! Someone agrees! 540,000° Fahrenheit and Empty Vision especially are amazing songs.

They are indeed great songs. The title track and Spinal Compression are my favorites though.
