Hmmm...decent CD, but nothing new. Standard metalcore. Extra points for being black and playing metal, but it still gets a 75/100 for me. Not a point more.

Why this band is so accepted in the metal world is beyond me, especially when bands like Shadows Fall and Trivium are slammed for being metalcore when they're more metal than this band. Weirdness.

trivium is in no way more metal than god forbid.

and i do agree that 96 and album of the year is way to prestigious of a score and an award. i would say 85 at the most. the clean vocals, although well done, annoy the poop out of me...and although the riffs are more solid, i felt that the drumming to a step backwards. or at least not forwards.

Album of the year WTF that honor goes to albums like Nevermore's This Godless Endeavor or Kamelot's The Black Halo album both of those albums blow this one out the door.

You're out of your tits! Trivium is way more metal than this band, they're also more popular thus they get trashed more. God Forbid are solidly based in hardcore, Trivium in metal.

Agreed, this band is just a boring nuthrash/metalcore band.

Eyesore, you've lost it. Trivium is about as metal as Britney Spears.

As for the album, how this can be album of the year up against the likes of Nevermore, Judas Priest, Candlemass, and countless others is a headscratcher. Gone Forever was pretty good, in my opinion (light years ahead of Trivium anyway), but this is a HUGE step backwards for this band. The clean vocal harmonies are overdone big time, the drumming is ho hum, and even the guitars don't cut it. Disappointing, but still better than Trivium's last album.

60/100

Trivium seem to have better- more METAL- solos...

But overall I think God Forbid have some better riffs and nicer songs- not that I've listened to them especially deeply. Much less obviously derivative.

Seriously, can anyone dislike a band and still be objective? Trivium play old school tradtional/thrash metal! Take away the vocals and that's what you have! There is no disputing that.

Well, Eyesore, obviously I was exaggerating....a little. :)

I guess I am just blinded by my unabashed hatred for Trivium, and my disappointment over the severe drop in quality of God Forbid's new album.

I still maintain that any Trivium album will only hope to be half as metal as GF's previous record. Alas, the Trivium being thrash argument has run its course in another thread, so I will not rehash my feelings on that subject.

Bottom line, you like Trivium, I think they're shit, those two facts will never change, and I for one am okay with that.

They sound a tiny bit like thrash... but that doesn't really make them good. To me they're just another band that sloppily rips off At The Gates.

I can't believe I just downloaded and listened to a Trivium song to reassure myself that that point of view is correct. :(

i have a feeling that this thread is going to drag on for a while. I think this is an awesome album, but Album of the Year? I'm not too sure about that, maybe album of the month. Still, an awesome record that beats their previous work, a progression for the band.

I do not like Trivium one bit. I despise the vocals. That ruins the band for me.

Yep, same here. I can't even focus on the guitars and such due to the overpowering shittiness of Heafy's vox.

Hell, no, NO! They more than ever are turning into a Killswitch clone. Gone Forever was much better than what shite I've heard off of this.

Wow.

God Forbid have only gotten worse with each release, in keeping with metalcore tradition of course, and not even their older albums are worth this kind of score. Boo I say, boo.
