At first, this album did not grab me but I forced myself to listen because the first alubm was so grat and now.... I can't stop lstening. If anyone likes Queen and AC/DC then One way ticket is the perfect record. The production makes the band comp[letely different though. No longer do Justin Hawkins high falsetto screams pierce like they did on the first alubm. instead they are mixed just enough as to be another instrument instead of a gimick. It works. The guitar solos are fresh and Dan Hawkins channels Brian May on more than one occasion. MY personal favorites are "English Country Garden", "Girlfriend" and "Bald". Let me say, "Bald" is one of the most evil sounding songs I have heard this year. It is not death or black metal evil, bit just has an evil riff. I'd give this album a 90 and go so far as to say it's better than the first one.

The more polished production takes away the raw punch of "Permission To Land".Nevertheless,The Darkness have crafted a more than worthy follow up.We need more bands of their like around.

*ahem!* No, we don't. The Darkness represent all that is wrong with music nowadays, image over content, power metal or no fucking power metal.

I see your point. However, this album is a disappointment for me.

Haven't heard the album yet (though it's slated to add to the station's rotation come February) but I don't expect to like it. I didn't care for their first one, and they've already made a bad impression with that atrocious title.

I'm disappointed. I really liked Permission to Land. Haven't heard it yet though and will reserve judgement.

I bought that first album without even hearing it. Everyone said it was amazing rock music, a return to that true rock sound. I was stoked, 80's rock being my all-time favorite style of music. So I bought the CD and I gave that fucking thing away within a month.

I absolutely hated it. I didn't find any of it to be genuine. The image was satirical, the music was decent at best and the vocals were atrocious! They seemed to take all the negatives of those flash-in-the-pan 80's rock bands—the cheese, the ridiculous outfits, the horrible wanky vocals, the mediocre music, etc.—that were just looking to cash in by copying the real 80's rock bands, and they actually tried to convince people it was great! And it fucking worked for the most part, the sheep flocked the media magnet.

Terrible band, terrible music. If you want real 80's rock, go buy Firehouse's Prime Time or Slaughter's Back To Reality or Winger's Pull or Babylon A.D.'s American Blitzkrieg if you want great 80's rock that came out long after 80's rock imploded. The Darkness are a joke.

WOW! Firehouse? Real 80's rock? I guess to some extent but there was much better shit than even that release. Try Beau Nasty's "Dirty But Well Dressed" or Law and Order's "Guilty of Innocence". Bablyon A.D.? That album blew more chunks than Wayne and Garth! As for Winger's "Pull", I do agree it was underated as there is some great stuff on it. It was much better than the second album.

My point was that there are bands that were big in the 80's still out there creating and releasing music that is much better than The Darkness. And yes, I actually think Firehouse are highly underrated. They have some wanky tunes like a lot of 80's rock bands, but overall they're a kick ass band. Some of their songs like "Reach For The Sky" and "Hold The Dream" and "Can't Stop The Pain" and "Hold Your Fire" are all killer tunes. Their newest album is excellent.

You've heard American Blitzkrieg? You didn't like it? Some tunes were a bit modern, but overall I think it's a great record. Again, much better than The Darkness, which was my point.

Points noted :) I think I remember one Firehouse song where the lead solo in it sounded exactly like one from an Ozzy song. Actually, maybe it was Zach that stole it from them. It was either No More Tears, Mr. Tinkertrain or Miracle Man.

When a band goes from singing about love to singing about cocaine, something has gone awry.

I loved their first album, but this one doesn't... get me as much. It doesn't punch me in the face. Perhaps the loss of Frankie Poullain was too much for the British quartet to bear.

Amen. Man that post totally could have been written by me, except I wouldn't have done it nearly as well.

Great to see another Firehouse fan around here, by the way...I only have their first album, but that one's a really excellent piece when it's on. I just wish it could be a bit more consistent; there are some real dogs on there for sure, but when the album starts to rock it rocks like nothing else. "All She Wrote", "Overnight Sensation", "Helpless", "Oughta Be a Law" and the album's highlight, "Shake & Tumble", all the make the album quite a worthwhile purchase. Been planning on picking up their second one, because the two tunes I heard from it ("Reach for the Sky" and "Get in Touch") both kick major ass.

'Pull' is wickedly awesome too - especially "Junkyard Dog", man what the fuck is up with that song anyway, it's just so absurdly heavy?? I like older Winger too, but this album is probably more interesting in the long run.

I think the first Firehouse is their worst one! Not counting the Good Acoustics album. Well, I may be convinced to say 02 is worse than the first CD. Good CDs either way.

And yes, Pull is a highly underrated album! It's the best Winger album, unfortunately it went nowhere because it came out during the Nirvana Age.
