On Thorns I Lay is one of the many bands that started by playing doom-metal and evolved to gothic-atmospheric. Like many of these bands they use an alternance of male and female vocals. And like a lot of these bands there is some nice violin. I like this style and and it's not a bad thing that OTIL plays it too, it's just that there are so many bands playing it that it's really difficult to stand out in this genre.

To differenciate itself from the rest, this album has some qualities, it's little heavier than some, has some very nice piano parts. There is also a pop influence to make some of the songs more catchy. If Claudia J. has a nice voice the male singer is average. The melodies are very nice but I don't think this album will remain in the memories for a long time.

Not a bad album at all but only for the fans of the band or style.
