Tarantula are a Portuguese Power Metal band, and pretty good one. Their new effort, entitled Dream Maker is their 3rd album if I'm not mistaken, and a damn good Power Metal release.

Dream Maker is square Power Metal ,with strong riffs and guitar solos, very epic choir-based choruses and an impeccable production. The singer have a bit of an accent, but less pronounced than many Italian Power Metal singer. The songs are all built amongst the same formula, square mindblowing riffs, and strong choirs on simple choruslines. Dream Maker is the logical continuation of Light Beyond The Dark (their previous album). The overall sound and production is a bit better (but not that much since Light Beyond The Dark already had an excellent production). The main difference seems that they use more choirs on the new album. The artcover is also very nice and a definite improvement compared to the precedent one.

In the end Tarantula may not have reinvented anything with their new album, but they stand their ground and deliver a very enjoyable release. If you're into Power Metal, then be sure to check Tarantula, cause these guys seem to eat Power for breakfast.
