Finnish Black Dreams choose to tease the appetites of their fans and release their tracks via dropping quick singles in quick succession rather than wait and consolidate in a form of an EP, MLP or a full-length. Now they are going to embark soon on the tour of Eastern Europe, so probably their second single My Hell is going to be it for a while, now that the band focuses on playing live.
Things don’t change much on My Hell from earlier Soul Stealer. The title track has pulsating gothic rhythms, muddied up stoner riffs and moaning vocals. All that set with a good helping of hooks and addictive melodies, and you will have your head nodding along. On the title track, and even more so on the B-side You Are So Beautiful (When You are Dead and Cold), Black Dreams flourishes a bluesy solo or two going with an acoustic tinge on You Are So Beautiful in that department. The moaning hums by Juha Kraapo may be more of an acquired taste on My Hell, and the production feels looser and a little drunker, less rigid and more organic, but more importantly the catchiness of these songs is undeniable, so those Polish, Czech and Slovak bars be ready to rock. With equal nods to Babylon Whores and older Crematorium, Black Dreams is still nowhere near Sentenced, but they are trying.
