Henrik Wenngren, Skyfire's vocalist, reminds me Alexi Laiho. Children Of Bodom trademark, guitar and keyboard fighting at full speed, is also present on Timeless Departure. However, I have to admit that Skyfire's music is also full of Bal-Sagoth or Rhapsody symphonic elements. This first Skyfire's record is very melodic, but a bit more black metal oriented compared to the last Children Of Bodom, Follow The Reaper.
Musically, Skyfire can be proud of this album: imagine all typical Children Of Bodom and Rhapsody elements mixed together and creating almost a new sound. On the other hand, Skyfire hasn't invented anything new here. But the song writing is so magical and always very melodic that I cannot blame them to investigate Children Of Bodom's territory.
Next Skyfire's album will tell us if these guys have talent or not. But for the time being, if you like the above-mentioned bands you should definitively listen to this excellent record.
To be continued … and confirmed.
