Yeah, undeniably metallica worship, but done with style, class and
a healthy dose of songwriting talent. I always thought it was more like the album they never made between Justice and the s/t. Pretty subtle difference, I know....but it's there.

Yes, on reflection you're right, it is closer to Justice. Agreed on the style, class and songwriting skills too, very good stuff.

This all goes to the core of why Evan thinks they're meh....he's not a big metallica fan.

EDIT: I actually think their under appreciated second album is their finest hour. Takes some getting into, but like all great albums, when it clicks it really clicks.

Black Metal is great in LP's, more organic.
Vinyl blows the sound is usually staticky, and if you buy the 00ber kvlt reissues they're nothing but glorified cds anyways. There is a reason the cd was seen as a logical successor to vinyl, and thats because of clarity of sound instead of constant static. CDS WIN EVERYTIME!!!!!

I don't consider myself an audiophile, but I can tell the difference between good sound and bad sound, and I have a good understanding of where money can be best spent to achieve good sound.To that end, I have several pairs of high-end headphones, with a few different rigs, including different combinations of amplifiers and in some cases, DACs (digital-to-analogue converters).As weird as it is to find myself agreeing with Steve, I too believe CDs will provide the best sound quality when all the appropriate equipment is taken into account. I don't believe you can just listen to a CD or an LP through stock-standard speakers and expect to be able to judge which provides the best sound.HOWEVER, with all that said, something a lot of audiophiles and common punters fail to realise is that sound quality is completely and utterly subjective. Completely and utterly, and I don't care what anyone else tells you.So just because I agree with Steve doesn't mean Nima and Alex are wrong.

Right. And it is after all an area of discussion which leads up to completely subjectivity. Both analog and digital recordings have their own "good" and "bad" qualities. But the huge difference between analog and digital is this: Analog: a complete recording of say one track without the sequential capturing of bits or wave-function into the recording (so consecutiveness). Digital: well, it's the opposite. It works as to capturing the sequential wave-functions into using a microphone (so sequential). Which sounds more reasonable to you having the better sound quality? Why is it that analog recording sounds more warm, diverse, deep and altogether a much more recognizable expanded sound compared to digital? Yes there might be some noises that come naturally with an analog recording but at the end of the day (for me) the analog sound is the winner.

Umm, Ian Christe posted an article on African metal. I'm listening to a kinda doomy band called Amanaz (<a class="postlink" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=OL-VGyrs_Cg">http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... L-VGyrs_Cg</a>). Pretty cool stuff with a definite influence from context. That's the first of seven bands and this seems really cool.

The genius in Immolation is the complexities, the prime unconventional melodious structure and the utmost poisonous, infectious "darkness" that they create which is only matched by Incantation. No other DM band sounds like them. Their lyrical content is also some of the best in the arena of DM.

I can't either. I think I enjoyed a few songs but wasn't overly impressed by the whole package. Evile, save a few songs, is just not for me. Although the very Voivod-y song is very cool.
