Absolutely loving this. It's quite sad that it took an accident to get me to try these guys again. Just goes to show, amazing how you can take against a band and then ignore them, to your utter loss.

I know what you're saying. Revolver gave Red their album of the year when it came out. I heard it and wrote it off as hipster shit. Then Baizley live, opening for HoF and Opeth, just blew me away. All the pieces clicked once I saw them live. I don't think they're groundbreaking, but Red is easily one of the most interesting album in the last five years. An interesting mix of rock, post-metal and sludge. Their later albums are an obvious move from that sound, but damn it was perfect on Red.

My first only. It's definitely more "progressive" as in the vast and vague meaning of the word itself. They're definitely maturing. Many interesting drum works and the acoustic passages are much present that albums prior. It's very much Ahab and instantly recognizable as such. I need more repeated plays to give you a definitive answer.

EDIT: The clean vocals have improved.

I haven't listened to it enough yet to say whether I like it, but Ahab doesn't resemble funeral doom anymore. Whether this is a good or bad thing depends on perspective, of course.

No. They're definitely not Funeral Doom at all. They have a stoner vibe as well as general depressive music such as general doom metal. It still has the despair of doom but the artwork conveys otherwise and the music seems different, too.
