Films watched recently... (CAUTION, SPOILERS)

Hmm, I could see the TV series being better but I'm not sure I care enough to check it out. Too bad Netflix didn't have the original 🙁

Saw MIB 3I thought it was a genuinely good movie other than the ending which seem kinda cheesy, but it ties into the fact that K and J have an unusual bond. I enjoyed it as much as I did when I saw the first one years ago.8/10

This is really weird, but: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Thing is, my girlfriend is five years younger than I am, so while I was fifteen around the time the Lord of the Rings films came out, my girlfriend was ten and inevitably drawn to the more juvenile plots of the Harry Potter books and films. She had all the dvds from back when they came out, and I thought, meh, why don't I watch them just to get it over with (and for Emma Watson, rrraorr).Huge fucking mistake. It turns out I fucking hate child actors. And there's about five more films after this? Fuck.

And then you have the adult actors: practically half the Royal Shakespeare Company's alumni all chewing the scenery and having fun for the easy paychecks these films provided. Great for them, and frankly they deserved some easy money for a change when compared to their Hollywood brethren, but still, not easy on us poor viewers. I watched a couple of them before I gave up and just started watching the Rifftrax (what the Mystery Science Theater guys do now) versions of the films; the films are a lot of fun if you just don't take any of it seriously.

No child actor can act any worse than that kid that portrayed a young Anakin.I watched him as Arnold Schwarzenegger's son in Jingle all the way and his performance was terrible

the plight of my generation... several girlfriends have forced me to watch them over the years. still have never seen the chamber of secrets or goblet. had to watch a few of these last week with the lady friend. they get better around five or six, whichever one was the phoenix one.

Pacific Rim was everything that you would want it to be. del Toro utilizes all the tropes perfectly to make a better Bay film than Bay does himself. The political content (politicians are shitty bureaucrats and military will save us) was there duh, but the socioeconomic layer (the giant monsters ravage and pollute the environment) made each battle with the monsters more dire and awesome. Plus del Toro's propensity to pull the trigger and leave the viewer hanging left open the possibility for shit to go wrong at any minute. Yeah, it's mass culture rubbish, but it's the best possible form of it. It was sooo good.

saw it on the airplane. fucking good stuff.also saw Hangover 3 (crap, but at least they're done raping the first movie), State of Play (ok+) and Iron Man 3 (what a mess).

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.I went in with a couple friends to riff this, and while it was laughable at times, such as the whole concept of the Hunger Games being this alliance vs competition thing falling by the wayside in this arena of spawning death, as well as the forced love triangle. Still it wasn't a bad, just 45 minutes longer than it needed to be like most modern movies. I understand why this author's world has attracted so many readers/viewers, and Jen Lawrence is hot.

Completely forgot this thread!The Wolf of Wall Street - classic Scorsese with lots of drugs, swearing and voiceovers - Goodfellas, but about stockbrokers? Bit strange seeing Jonah Hill in there, but even at the length I thought it was great.

Fuck, Hanna is good.Been watching a lot of stuff recently.Saw Her with the fiancee last week. I went into it expecting an exploration of people's relationships with technology, which it is, but it's also a perfect romance story. Beautifully filmed with a totally believable sci-fi future to boot. Loved it. Joaquin Phoenix deserves an Oscar.Watched Stargate (the original movie) and Re-Animator last night when looking for something fun to watch on Netflix. Stargate is laughably bad at times yet endearingly campy overall. And Re-Animator is just pure camp and completely awesome.Finally, I rented Prisoners and watched it tonight. What a tense film. Some of the behaviors the characters exhibit are unrealistic and I wanted to know more about Loki (Gyllenhal's character... and seriously, why is he named Loki?), but overall it's nicely acted and has some neat twists and some seriously gut-churning moments.Watching Captain Phillips tomorrow night.

Under the Skin - Weird, unsettling, creepy film. Ending sort of spoils the effect (bit more Prometheus than the horror vibe it had before) but ScarJo is quite captivating and the (often genuine) reactions to her are fascinating. Bloody Scotland.

I've spent all of 3 days in Scotland, and each minute there I wanted to get out of it. :lol:About the movie, I missed your review at first, but I heard elsewhere it was worth watching as well, and that ScarJo was in the role best suited to her: her looking pretty with very understated acting. I'll try to see it soon.
