Hmm... Well, I'm halfway through the first season now, and I've definitely started liking it more. I am looking forward to a main plot (there are a few hints here and there about an apocalypse and Wolfram and Hart, the law firm, looks like it's going to become important) but although there have been a couple of duds, I do like how the standalone episodes mainly focus on the main characters, instead random person of the week who comes into Angel's office looking for help. Plus the show is ridiculously funny at times; Angel dancing was one of the best things ever.
And killing off a certain character so early on was pretty damn ballsy. I don't think I've ever seen a show do something like that before.
