New Thrash Bands.

I wouldn't say it's ruined. It's not like Faust is going to casually browse the internet, click on this thread then have a nervous breakdown and randomly go out and stab a few gays, before locking himself in the rehearsal room until the others in Blood Sue Nammy agree to perfectly replicate Slayer circa 1985. Seriously, from what I've heard of the new one it's not so bad. If I end up reviewing it I might even listen to the first one, too. I mean, Thrash Metal got an 85 here and much rimming from the forumites. Be cool, brother.

I don't really see your problem. As I said, Thrash Metal got an 85 on this site, and all the Slayeriggas didn't. You're going to let a few sillies mess you up, when chances are that they're pulling your plonker over this anyways? Well, clearly there was a time before thrash existed, and clearly therefore the first thrash bands must have been on the cutting edge of something.

"Experimental" is different to "innovative", though... there are very few experimental thrash bands, but various innovative ones. I can't see how anyone would think Megadeth, for example, back in the day weren't an innovative band. That's to say nothing at all of Voivod, Coroner, Watchtower, etc.

Nowadays obviously the vast majority of thrash bands aren't innovative, but then there are always some. Aura Noir, for example, I would consider a thrash band, and they are often considered to be pretty innovative by a lot of people.

Ok, but then if you don't consider Voivod, f.ex, to be thrash then isn't it you as a listener that is making it a non-innovative genre, rather than the genre itself being inherently limiting? Voivod certainly contain thrash elements, but according to you not enough.

What I mean is, maybe what is non-innovative is the way in which we, the audience, define thrash narrowly, rather than the musicians in thrash themselves.

I've never heard any Voivod, but I've read positive reviews. I was trying to avoid judging bands I didn't know by first saying which bands I did know and was going to say something about. My definition if thrash isn't solid, I have kind of a vague, hard-to-describe notion of what makes something thrash and what doesn't, but maybe if I listened to more bands and thought a bit I'd come up with something.
As it is, I've always found thrash to be too mono-thematic and undynamic, never really did it for me.
