In the Nightside Eclipse is up in my favorite album artworks ever. It's absolutely stunning and gives off such an atmosphere that really complements the music.

I'll have to try that sometime. Many moons ago someone suggested listening to this album in total darkness. I actually followed their advice and consider it the proper way to listen to it.

Focusing on a candle in a dark room works well, too.
This is the way black metal (good black metal, at least ) should be experienced, generally, as it is meant to invoke a trance-like state of disembodied mindlessness.

I'll never forget the first time I heard that album. Must have been fall 2000, and it was basically the first black metal I ever heard. It sounded to me like it was from infernal depths of hell itself :dio: :dio:

I first heard it in late January of 96, and indeed it was all that I listened to for quite some time.
Mephistopholean, at times Wagnerian, timeless and cosmic in proportion.

I know it's not Black Metal, but the best way to listen to Cradle of Filth is on a cold night in a dim lit room.

It really does give you that sense of being in a Hammer horror film.

Minus some initial listening to an Anaal Nathrakh and a 1349 track, Eclipse was my first bm experience. My friend blasting it from his truck on a rainy winter night at work. Such a killer album. Cosmic Keys it was.

So intense and lofi.

Vempire / Dusk era Cradle is very good, and Hammer Films are awesome.
favorite Hammer outing: Taste The Blood Of Dracula.
I was weaned on Hammer Studios movies.

You are quite right, they capture the whole Victorian Gothic mood perfectly.
