This for me, too. I find it really a baffling album...everything before Ogechee Hymnal is marred by an annoying-as-fuck bass drum sound that drowns out the guitars and pretty much ruins what are otherwise good songs in Jake Leg and Swollen and Halo, although I'm not sure anything could make up for those absolutely horrendous vocals on Jake Leg. But, the back half of the album loses that drum sound and is just way fucking better overall. Weird.
