Yeah, getting a 700$~ 5-string bass seems a little odd because I'd like to buy one and then play that forever. Also I don't have an amp right now either, so I couldn't play it for a bit. On the other hand, my guitar cost about that much and I don't have any desire to buy a better one in the near future, so the Washburn might get the job done.

I'd probably explore all the possibilities in the same price range before I come to a final decision.

My main gutar is my PRS SE Standard in Vintage cherry - snap, metal_xxx. :lol:
I also have a Seagull acoustic which sounds really good for fingerpicking, not that I'm any good, really.

It's by a company called Spear, the model is the Claymore ha ha! Korean made I think, but the main offices are based in Glasgow. The shop I got it from does them cheap as they know the boss of it. Only cost me £270 though, which is really surprising as it's wonderful in sound and feel. Thing just screamed at me to buy it when I first saw it 😃.

Currently considering whether I should actually buy a bass, seeing as I'm completely dyspraxic I may never learn to play it 🙁

You should do it! Worst case scenario you can be like the dude from Korn and just hit your bass.

I had to take the book on solo guitar I was learning from back to the library today. Ordered it and the second part from Amazon though... but it looks like I'll have to focus on learning bass stuff for a week or two until it gets here.

Actually I played a friend's bass last night and picked it up surprisingly easily, so I might well give it a shot. Unfortunately I now have a massive callous on my thumb, ouch.

I tuned my bass like a cello (CGDA) and so far I like it a lot. The C string is a little hard to control since its tuned down so low, but the tuning makes chords a lot better (Major and minor chords are in a 3 fret area 😃). I might go down to a music store and see if they have suggestions for what to use for the low string. ponder

edit: after playing with the tuning some more, it offers pretty easy shapes for major and minor 6th/7th chords o/

Does anyone know good ways to get better at fast strumming? I have a hard time doing power chords and stuff where I have to mute more than 2 strings >_<

Buy a metronome.

Use it.

Strumming to a metronome is about as fun as getting teeth pulled.

It does help though >_<

I actually kind of enjoy seeing how far I can push myself with a metronome, but whether you enjoy it, or find it tedious, it really does help a lot.

It can be frustrating sometimes but it's nice having a definite marker of progress... being able to think "I can play this song twice as fast as when I started practicing it today!" or whatever.

A metronome is completely necessary for musical training.
