I think my dad & brother collectively have all the BG and Icewind Dale games, so I'm gonna play through all those.

Those are all amazing games (and their expansions). The 2 BGs have very fairly been considered 2 of the very best RPGs during a very stale cRPG period. BG1 might feel a bit dated today but it was all sparkle when it came out. The 2 ID are also fun games to play but contrary to the BG games, they are not non-linear and not so much role-playing but more dungeon-crawling. Still, they are very beautiful in their own way. Just keep in mind that BG1 and ID1 use AD&D 2nd edition rules (BG2 also but with some 3rd edition things) while if I remember correctly IW2 uses 3rd edition D&D rules.

Finally, you can easily find a lot of mods and customization files from avatars & sounds to quests & interface changes on the internet. Pick what you think you would like. Just one advice, play both BG games with the NPCs in the game and not a self-made party. The whole game experience will be much much better!!

Hells yes. I'm at Baldur's Gate itself on the 1st one. This game kicks so much ass.

It's a shame that Black Isle Studios is closed now.

Im getting very annoyed with my NHL 2K8, my first franchise save was corrupted so I started over. I got bored and stopped playing, so when I went back to playing earlier this week I decided to start another franchise, friggin 5 games into it and the file got corrupted again. This is BS! I think if it happens again (as I have started another franchise) I will take the game back and buy NHL 08 and be done with these stupid problems.

Oh and I really really like Assassin's Creed. Almost beat it.

I have ordered Vib Ribbon for Christmas. It's an old PS1 game that can vaguely be described as a rhythym platformer. The best part is that it makes levels based on the CDs you put into it. I'm looking forward to firing up Nattens Madrigal and laughing at the ensuing craziness.

I don't know why you're having so many franchise saved files corruption issues is it a game problem or a 360 one ?
Anyhow NHL 08 (I have the PS3 version) is supposedly better than the 2k series this year. But I feel your pain, having to buy two NHL games is a real bitch.

I just started playing Xenosaga Episode 1. Great game. I honestly don't at all mind the long cutscenes. The music (even though there isn't much of it) is also awesome - the battle theme, in particular, is possibly the greatest battle theme ever in an RPG.

For Christmas, I asked for:

Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance
Yoshi's Island DS

Should I have asked for MGS2: Sons Of Liberty instead of Substance?

How does Yoshi's Island DS compare with the original Yoshi's Island (one of my all-time favorite SNES games)?

Remeber when this first happened, I think it was you who told me to go online and look for a patch or something. Well I did go online and after some reading I found out that I am not the only one who is having this problem. It happens after you use a new feature in Franchise mode called Find a Trade. So far my 3rd Franchise is working out fine, but now that I have said that it will freeze on me again.

Ah I think that would be me giving that brilliant piece of advice! :D Or maybe grandbazaar did too, no idea really. But well now you know, maybe you can avoid it and hope they officially take some action to correct this.

Yeah now that I think about it, it was you. Too bad it is still happening even when I am avoiding what causes the problem. But so far so good on my new franchise.

As an early Christmas present for myself, I decided to buy the original WipeOut for PS1 on Half.com. The only other Wipeout game I've played is the Nintendo 64 one (which is a pretty damn good game). How is the original? Is it still playable after over 12 years?

my cousin brought his ps2 over and we've been playing PES 2008. it's good, but there is one thing that really makes me want to break the goddamn game and controller in half (like Kim did with PES6 :P):
THE SHOOTING! SERIOUSLY, IT'S THE MOST ANNOYING ISSUE IN EVERY FUCKING PES GAME EVER!!

- long-distance shooting - my cousin scores maybe 80% of his goals like this. almost all his shots come off perfect.
you try the same in ideal conditions (no pressure, ball in control, correct foot, no one ahead of you) and it'll either fly over or come off too weak. even the fucking power bar makes no difference, i've seen half-full shots fly over and full shots go into the goal!

- close-range shooting - "one-tap" shooting makes the player try to spike the ball.. oh, wait, isn't that what l1+square does ALSO? so you're desperately trying to shove the ball in the goal and if you try to charge a shot you risk getting it stolen or the shot flying over, so you go for a short tap... and the player spikes it over the goal like this is rugby!

- shooting with the wrong foot - i realize a right-footed player isn't as good with the left (and vice-versa) but the players miss even the simplest shots (or somehow fire perfect rockets from outside the box into the goal, i swear it's fucking random!) when it's the wrong foot.

- desperate shooting - or maybe you're trying to shove a ball into the net and press square several times.. and the shot flies over. i know that IRL a player has to keep his cool, but even the most nervous player can kick a ball into an empty net. in the game, EVERY SINGLE TIME you press square several times you fuck up the shot, no matter how close you are to the goal!

PES is a a very good game and it's the best footie game out there, but i can't believe a game with such glaring faults is considered perfect. also, i wish people would, you know, stop and play something else sometimes. you're with your friends and want a good simple game everyone can pick up and play but NOOOOOOOOO everyone wants fucking PES. fuck them.

I like the Winning 11 series. If you can get your hands on that, then give it a try.
