I didn't know squat about this album until I read this review. Checked out the song samples on the site, liked what I heard, found the torrent and VIOLA! I am having a blast with this album! I'm on my second listen in a row and I really like what I'm hearing. I'm not a big fan of country vocals, but I think it's closer to Lynyrd Skynyrd and Molly Hatchet than it is to anything country.
This was probably intended to be a fun album to listen to when they recorded it. It is that. FUN.
Ranks right up there with the Jorn Lande and Russell Allen solo albums of recent. Great party music for sure. I'll give it a solid 85 right off the bat. Could easily move up to a 90 though, if it still holds it's fun on listen #10+. I expect it will, because Dimebag writes some really great riffs on this, and you even get a tantalizing taste of his solos here and there.
Dime was truly an amazing guitarist! Don't let the youngins try and tell you otherwise! Hehe. Have you ever heard Pantera's early albums? Check out the song "Over And Out," the riffs on the song are some of the best I've ever heard. I really hope Vinnie re-releases those albums properly at some point.
As for this album, it's definitely a fun album! You can just tell that the band's intention was simply that. It translates perfectly. Nothing pretentious about it.
