Hahaha. At least I back my "impassioned defenses" up with logical opinion instead of just saying, "Fuck you! They suck!" I can do that if you'd like.

And I didn't give a definition of thrash, I simply pointed out that vocals do not define a musical style of a band. It's not a very hard concept to grasp.

if it comes to that, I didn't say that they sucked. but they obviously, OBVIOUSLY bear all the hallmarks of mainstream-orientated metalcore. vocals aside, they don't have the frantic pace or the clever lyrics to back up their supposed thrashness.. the music is too clean and well-mixed and it sounds like it's being played by a computer; it's unconvincing, and none of their songs capture that old rushing-because-we're-almost-slipping-off-the-beat feel of thrash. Hell I don't even listen to much thrash, outside of the technical stuff, and I can tell that this isn't it.

Thoroughly agreed, Lizardtail. I don't see how someone can find an authentic thrash feel in Trivium. The first time I heard them I thought they were the most derivatively "NWOAHM" ( ) band imaginable... Very professionally performed and with some very nice solos, but offering absolutely nothing new at all, and clearly geared towards a very mainstream audience.

Sometimes I feel harsh judging bands like this, because I usually only listen to one of their songs and make a snap judgement. But in this case I really can't see what all the fuss is about, beyond the fact that they look like they could be on the cover of metal hammer.

Too harsh, man, too harsh! Ville is on the cover again this month, and guess what? He still thinks he's Jesus! :)

Woah there, Z... Checked the shelves at WH Smiths recently? There we see our good friends Trivium, complete with sycophantic article telling us all how FUCKING METAL they are.

Talking of MH, I finally got tired of them being unable to recognise which film "Send More Paramedics" take their name from... I sent them a text telling them to get their shit together. Much difference it'll make.

According to their website, Valle is on the cover. I really couldn't give a shit either way, tell the truth.

Tell me, why do you buy it?

Well, if you've noticed in other posts I have said I dislike Trivium. The only point I'm trying to make is a vocalist may make the music sound like a certain style, it doesn't mean it is. A hardcore vocalist shouting over a death metal track does not make it hardcore. I'm just saying that if you take away the vocals, Trivium is more like traditional, old school metal and thrash than anything hardcore.

And I also never said Trivium was "authentic" thrash. Just for the record.

You know that's a very.... very good question. Recently because I had a long train journey and I'd already read terrorizer, I suppose. Having a job has made me think I can afford to buy stuff I don't like... Perhaps that should stop.

Pretend to be intellectual and read a book. :P

I gave up on Terrorizer recently. I'll probably get it again when they've finished the Power Metal Special bollocks.

Man you're so grim.

Hey, you might even have learned something.

(Not bloody likely :P )

I'd say they're metalcore, but I certainly like them.

Actually heard another track today... that "pull harder" one. Thought it was much better than the stuff I'd heard earlier. There's a slight bit of thrash in there I think, but it is just one of many elements. You certainly wouldn't say they were a thrash band... (not that anyone here has really tried to).

But anyway, I still have the same problem with them that I do with everyone else from that scene... Too clean, could be anyone else... Plus the vocals are very inexpressive.
