your constant impassioned defenses of incredibly tedious, mainstream bands is starting to get a little too precious
Hahaha. At least I back my "impassioned defenses" up with logical opinion instead of just saying, "Fuck you! They suck!" I can do that if you'd like.
And I didn't give a definition of thrash, I simply pointed out that vocals do not define a musical style of a band. It's not a very hard concept to grasp.
if it comes to that, I didn't say that they sucked. but they obviously, OBVIOUSLY bear all the hallmarks of mainstream-orientated metalcore. vocals aside, they don't have the frantic pace or the clever lyrics to back up their supposed thrashness.. the music is too clean and well-mixed and it sounds like it's being played by a computer; it's unconvincing, and none of their songs capture that old rushing-because-we're-almost-slipping-off-the-beat feel of thrash. Hell I don't even listen to much thrash, outside of the technical stuff, and I can tell that this isn't it.
Thoroughly agreed, Lizardtail. I don't see how someone can find an authentic thrash feel in Trivium. The first time I heard them I thought they were the most derivatively "NWOAHM" ( ) band imaginable... Very professionally performed and with some very nice solos, but offering absolutely nothing new at all, and clearly geared towards a very mainstream audience.
Sometimes I feel harsh judging bands like this, because I usually only listen to one of their songs and make a snap judgement. But in this case I really can't see what all the fuss is about, beyond the fact that they look like they could be on the cover of metal hammer.
