Do you listen to any Power Metal other than DragonForce?

Gasp! I'm getting on in age (well, in my 30s) and my roots stem from Manowar, Bolt Thrower & Helloween!

I think what I'm trying to get across is that DF IR is getting played to death on my stereo (and I hope for a long time onwards) and I've heard nothing as awesome (in my opinion) in recent times (although Gamma Ray's Majestic is a damn fine effort).

I'm off to sulk now, I fear that I shall have to dust off the old battle axe, go out and slay some goblins in fury at the thought of my honour being questioned!

Hey, no offence now, but your talk of no one else being as uplifting as DF leads me to believe you could be more familiar with european Power Metal than you are.

Sonata Arctica, Avantasia, Lost Horizon, Nocturnal Rites, etc, are you familiar with these? None play anywhere near as fast as DragonForce but its all the same sort of stuff.

I knowSonata Arctica, Avantasia well and good stuff they are too, but must admit that I've heard little of Lost Horizon & Nocturnal Rites. Are they any good, as am always looking for more quality Power metal?

All thios Goblin bating takes it out of one, I'm of to the Tavern to get drunker than a Norwegian Dwarf in an ale factory. Laters, and keep the dreams of pure metal alive!

Nocturnal Rites first three albums contain a lot of power metal classics in the vein of Keeper of the Seven Keys.

Lost Horizon are just one of the best bands in the subgenre and the singer on their two albums is one of the best in the history of Metal.[/hyperbole]

I also recommend Hibria for fast, uplifting power metal (with balls).

Its not just Nocturnal Rites first 3 albums which are good, all their albums have good power metal, just that their last 4 are more modern. Some dont like their direction while others do.

If you like what you hear from Lost Horizon, unfortunatelly that singer has left the band. So if you like his vocal talents, he has done an album with a band called Crystal Eyes. The band are rather average, but with him in the band for their latest album, they have improved.

Dont forget to mention with Hibria, uplifting power metal, with balls, AND with 80's metal influences

*ARGHH* This still isn't out in the states. I can't be held responsible for any violent outbursts that occur if this situation does not improve in the near to immediate future.

Don't get me wrong, this album is brilliant, but I'm not going to say its better than VotD. 89/100.

I'll agree that the new one is better, it has more song variety to my ears.

i've had a few listens now, an di have to say it's better. maybe it's ust me but ZP sounds much better and the songs are easier to "digest".

my favourites so far are the first 3 songs (though there are no really "weak" tracks here). "Storming The Burning Fields" is especially catchy.

the solos.... honestly as cool as they sound when i'm listening they're in no way memorable. it'd sound better if they put the solos separated in each song rather than 5 or 6 all together...

personally this album is "too much" to listen to from start to finish but it's a strong album nonetheless.

Congratulations to the band for a job well done.

I think thats a good thing. Solos that go for 3-5 minutes are gonna be hard to be memorable as its so long. So when you hear the songs again, the solos still kick ass as they always sound new. To me, it feels like a different solo everytime i hear it, cause theres so much going on with it.

But i agree that for some people, DragonForce can be "too much" for them. I was like that too when i first heard Sonic Firestorm, but eventually with enough listens, i got used to everything slaming my ears at the same time...
