If you can't go on a cosmic odyssey when listening to music...then you my friend are a casual listener....and by calling me a bozo you're not hurting my feelings, but fueling my opinion of superiority over you. So thank you, it helped a lot.

LOL, well I am glad I helped you inflate your baloon of superiority.

A lot of people were badly let down by that one... I personally dig it, but I would never claim to be more right or smarter than those who don't.
The core of the question is that I don't really give a damn if people agree or disagree with my tastes, I just stick to what I enjoy, and ---- the rest ;)

Exactly. Glorious Burden really seems to have split IE fans: love it or hate it. Personally, I love the album (see 2004 awards). However, I'm not going to try to convince a GB hater that the album really is great, nor will these folks be able to convince me that it sucks. Tastes will always differ, and if not, there would be no need for CD reviews or forums

I was never trying to convince anyone anything, I just don't think a score of 50/100 is how they truly felt or it was simply an impulsive anger in them that it sounded different. I just can't take 50/100 seriously any way you look at it, even if you really hate this album.

I wish you guys would give a more consistant scores--some mediocre stuff is getting 90's and even 100's, while some excellent albums are getting 70's (Jag Panzer), 60's (Space Odyssey) and even 50's (Iced Earth)

What is "mediocre"? What is "excellent"?

It's all a matter of the individual's opinion. Every time I read a review I can agree and disagree to various extents, but there is no "wrong" and no "right" here... just different people with different ideas.

There is no way anyone in their right mind can agree that Glorious Burden is 50/100

Actually I can, especially compared to Iced Earth's earlier work

ok, i've listened to it 3 times now & I can definitively say it's not up to Rheingold... a too few good moments and lots of useless mid-tempo fillers.... very generously, i'll give it 55/100

I guess I'm on the other side of the fence here. I was somewhat disappointed in Rheingold as some of the riffs seemed rehashed and the direction they had headed on The Grave Digger seemed lost, replaced by more standard GD-fare. This is not to say that Rheingold wasn't expertly crafted, it's a great album but, it seemed like they stepped backward for the first time into a trusted formula. Well, The Last Supper puts GD back on track IMO. The album is packed with some of the freshest sounding riffs GD have come up with in a long time. The choruses took more time to be absorbed but they have a melodic twist that grabs and doesn't let go. A slight improvement over Rheingold and probably a 92/100 over all. I dig it. 8)

Just to follow up on these thoughts. I'm loving the album through and through, listening to it 2-3 times a day for the past week. I posted a review at metal-archives and gave it a 93% there. \m/

At the very least I think they needed to change it up a bit. I mean, the various Grave Digger albums are not all that different when it comes to riffs and I don't know how many more variations on that theme they could have come up with. Perhaps write a computer program to generate all possible combinations? I commend them for doing that, and from what I sampled I don't think it sounds that all that bad. Certainly better than Grave Digger styled riff collection volume VI or whatever.

I meant variation-on-a-theme in the musical sense.

I don't know, I think they managed to do a pretty good job making theid albums sound somehat different from one another, now if only they learned more English words and the singer to to change the way he sings more often...

Yeah, only Grave Digger album I've heard is Excalibur and I just love when he sings in "Avalon" and "Morgane la Fay"

I didn't say it wasn't good, in fact I really like them (esp 'The Grave Digger') I was just saying it's possible they were running out of room for further innovation. Perhaps it was the way I said it.

yeah, this album is not bad, well crafted hm album, good sound etc.. it's just GD seems to be running out ou ideas... so what we've got here sounds pretty well when listening to it but nothing remains when the cd's over... that's what it does for me anyway...

Who did the artwork for this album? The style is similar to the covers of Blind Guardian releases like "Imaginations From The Other Side" and "Tales From The Twilight World"...... :?
