I'm reposting this since it was completely ignored the first time.

Look, in the past few weeks this board has gone downhill quick and we're all to blame. Slayer Of Kings has been riding my ass about going off-topic in threads, to which I've rebutted him every time because going off-topic is a natural part of discussion. But now that I've taken a step back, there's just way too much of that going on now. The discussions are now being flooded with jokes and chatroom-like banter that has nothing to do with musical discussion.

We're all guilty of it, or at least a good majority of us are. It needs to change. Let's try and keep the joking and general nonsense to the Hellheim forum, and let's try and keep the discussion on the topic of music in general on the rest of the forums. The General Music forum can go a little off course as it's not meant to be so structured. Off-topic conversation will happen and there is no problem with it, but it's got to be kept to a minimum in the main forums of this site.

Also, this is not high school. This is not a popularity contest here, there is no one poster that is better for this site than another as long as they contribute to the board/site in a positive way. On the other hand, that sort of thinking can only have a negative effect, just like flaming, trolling, etc. does. Clearly I love this messageboard, I've racked up more posts here in less than a year than I have on any other board. I probably have more posts here than all the other boards I visit combined, and I've been a member at those boards for years. So this is a great messageboard, but it has definitely changed recently. Let's try and get it back on track.

I'm not singling anyone out, this is a group issue, I've done things myself to exacerbate the problem. Let's just try and go back to discussing music in a friendly manner, even if people are disagreeing with each other. As of right now, this is internet high school for the learning disabled.

As for flamewars, a disagreement is not a flamewar. There is a clear, defined line between the two. Two people, or multiple people having a mature disagreement is not a flamewar. When someone starts throwing that word around it only adds fuel to the fire because all the internet dingleberries are going to latch onto it! Why? Because some people—while complaining about a flamewar—are actually inciting one because they like them. It's fun for them, it's a good time. Let's try and recognize the difference between the two because disagreements will happen daily.

So everyone kiss and make up. Respond only if you have something intelligent to say here and ON TOPIC. Please.

There, I changed the subject. Better? Look, the reason why I reposted this is because there are things that I said in this post that were apparently ignored as things said by other people recently suggest they didn't read what was written here.

This is important, no? I know a lot of you don't get involved in the little spats that go on around here, some make comments via PM instead of on the board, but in general things need to change. Hence this post...again. This was a great board at one time. Something changed. It's time it gets fixed.

if you think it's getting chatroomish, then why don't we supplement the place with an IRC channel? that way the forums will have more signal to noise, at least..

I think this was discussed, wasn't it? I'm not sure of what was said exactly, but I think it was a NO in the end. This board used to be primarily music talk except for Hellheim, it's more nonsense talk than music now, or so it seems to me.

True, I guess. I don't know much about it, all I know is I installed mIRC once and regretted it. It fucked my system all up, I got viruses like crazy, I had to deleted mIRC files from a million different folders on my PC...it was shitty, to say the least.

Wise words by Ken. He's right, we should all do our part for the sake of our beloved community. So stop fucking around. There's a time and a place for everything and it's called Helheim. A chatroom might be a good idea, I dunno if people will show interest though. It might be bad for the forum if we all started talking there.


And btw, I know there has been a lot of bad shit happening lately but you guys should know if you attend other forums, most forums are worse than here. People are racist, stupid, arrogant and fight are always bound to happen. No people in this forum are bad people, and I haven't even started hating anybody and I haven't been banned yet so this shows that this forum rules. Still does afterall. Let's keep it that way.

No, no, Steffy, I agree that this board is ten times better than the best board I ever visited prior, which is why I find myself trying to reason with people too much here. From now on you'll get my opinion once, maybe I'll elaborate twice, but after that you're on your own and left with what I previously said. No more will I re-word the same thing 50 times.

Message forums, particularly one like this were people have very different opinions and tastes will lead to spirited debate and discussion. If everyone agreed on everything, all the time, there'd be no such thing as a message forum to begin with.

However, when spirited debate starts to cross the line into personal attacks, not so thinly veiled insults, and off topic rants, it's very counter productive. When discussion go awry, you just have to know when to "agree to disagree" and move on. On almost any given topic, there is no way that everyone is going to agree one way or another. It's intersting to debate both sides of an issue, but when someone takes a "agree with me, or else your a fucking moron" stance, it ruins an otherwise good discussion.
