aargh... Green is a nice idea, yes. Of course, I'd always take Gordon over Cameron any day, and next election will be the first genuine competition for years. So it may be time to bite the bullet and just vote for whoever can stop the Tories in my constituency.

Of course on the other hand, being Leeds, the Tories have no chance anyway- so I'm just going to wait and see how things work out with the Lib Dems.

Hopefully, they'll get their shit together. The way things are going, Labour and Tory might as well be the same party in my view. Cameron = Blair back in 1997 (or whenever it was he first got in).

True... the whole "Centre Ground" bullshit. The last thing we need is another party claiming to be the most central. Britain desperately needs ideological diversity, but all we can do at the moment is choose who is the best administrator...

If I were the BNP, I could get a lot of votes around now if I was clever. Scary times...

Indeed. They just came second in council elections for my "home" constituency of Amber Valley in Derbyshire. Was just reading this article, which makes a good attempt to explain why racism may be on the rise again, amongst normal people... Like the author says, it's thought provoking reading for those of us who believe wholeheartedly in the welfare state.

Interesting indeed, yet it is just a by-product, I still think the WS does more good than harm. Sure, the working class has difficulties, not helped by them changing from miners to chavas (and you can't blame all of that on the government, surely!).

Well, I am filing jointly with my soon to be ex-wife so we can get a bigger return. Anyway, I put all my stuff in and the refund for federal sits at $2000 (excellent!!). Then I put her stuff in and it drops down to $600 (bogus!!).

Sure, but a harmful by-product. The BNP's fanbase is partly natural xenophobes, but another significant section is those people that genuinely believe they've been fucked over in favour of asylum seekers. Obviously my answer is not to be harsher on asylum seekers. Instead something has to be done to counter said misconception. Or at least make people realise that in fact refugees don't get an easy deal in Britain.

Of course it doesn't help that we have loathsome people like Richard Littlejohn talking directly to to readers of the Sun, saying "You do realise that all your taxes are spent on providing Ferraris and thousands of pounds in weekly benefit for Somalis don't you?". When of course we all know that Littlejohn doesn't have the foggiest idea how little money asylum seekers are actually offered. Argh, angry.

It was good to see Conservative party posters from the last election (you know, It's Not Racist To be Tough On Refugees or whatever they were saying) defaced with things like, "Yes it is, bastards". I think the liberals in this country far outweigh the racists - look at the media, not a single one wouild print those cartoons.

As for the tabloids, the only thing they're good for is the odd laugh. I read this about Gary Glitter, the bile the writer pours on him is incredible. I haven't picked up one for at least a couple of years, so it was quite shocking.

Heh, I hope you're right... Perhaps it's just the yahoo message boards that are making me lose faith. The BNP is still a tiny minority, but I suspect it's becoming larger very slowly- not to mention much more vocal.

But as for the People article... I'm not losing any sleep feeling sorry for Glitter, but this is odious on so many levels. Writers like that fuel mob mentality- and the idea that what happens to criminals should be decided by lowest common denominator "journalists" I find repellant... Mindless populism, and hypocrisy is what the People represents... And is he trying to suggest that what's happening to Glitter is a good thing? Is he praising the way the Vietnamese conduct their penal justice system? The conditions in some of those places should not even be inflicted on the vilest of murderers. Surely justice should be meted out by people that behave better than those that are being punished.

Haha, sidetracked a little bit, there... I have to say I'd expect more from Eamonn Holmes, as well. Or perhaps I not...

I don't think we have too much to worry about. Another bombing would make things difficult, though, let's hope the Mujahadeen are too busy burning Norwegian flags to get around to us...

Agreed absolutely with your second point, conditions over there are shitty. Although GG was right when he said it's because of his fame, I'm sure a few quid would have seen him out and free. The sex trade over there is appalling.

And I didn't bother reading that Eamonn Holmes thing, past the moaning about "festival" lights or whatever it was. Why the hell should the Xtians shove their religion down everyone's throat? PC can be good after all, it seems...

Yeah... probably the thing that irritates me more than anything else in the media is the incessant demonisation of the "PC Brigade". And I was delighted that Lambeth called their display "Winter Light". Since when has Christmas been assembled and turned on in October?

Ha. The more Christmas gets taken over by greedy capitalists, the warmer my heart gets. If I want to get drunk with my annoying relatives, I can do it without a pretext of a non-existant mangod's birthday, for goodness's sake.

Pfft. $350 after pouring over $1500 in. :?

Thanks for those "tax cuts" Mr. Bush. I knew it would come out of the working classes pocket.

Yeah, tell me about it. I think I'll try to claim her as a dependent so I can get more back. The IRS can kiss my bender.
