If modern hard rock is one of your favorite genres then you might dig this, but I find horrible. I hear Sound Garden, Collective Soul, and Audioslave when I listen to this, and that isn’t a good combination.

What's wrong with Sound Garden, Collective Soul and Audioslave? I usually listen to metal but I also enjoy those bands very much. It's called being open-minded about other genres of music.....you should try it sometime.

How do you know he doesn't have an open mind? I mean, no one can like everything. The fact that he could even give a statement on it shows he was looking to expand horizons by sampling.

As for me, I like Audioslave. Maybe I'll check it out.

Yeh...I guess I was a bit too hasty to judge him by his post...SORRY METALNESS.....but I'm a bit put off by some of the "metalheads" that hang around this site that bash anything in this type of genre and the fact that he said "I hear Sound Garden, Collective Soul, and Audioslave when I listen to this, and that isn’t a good combination". I happen to like all three of those bands very much and so do a lot of people. It would've been better if he just left it by saying that he didn't like it and those who like those types of bands will...without the Audioslave, Collective Soul, Sound Garden bashing. I mentioned those bands several times in my review in describing the sound of Slave To The System....I'm not really sure what the purpose of his post really was in the first place...

LOL, yeah, it always sucks when someone casts bad thoughts upon a band you love, but four bands you love must've been your breaking point.

Shit, dude, you should feel like a king. You got a non-fan of the genre to sample something he prolly knew he was gonna hate, all through the power of a persuasive, and excellent review.

This is actually quite a good CD. It came out around 2001, though, originally. This re-release lists Damon Johnson as the singer, but the person actually singing on this CD is Scotty Heard, guitarist/vocalist for the now-defunct Sweaty Nipple—a great band, by the way. Apparently, Heard is no longer in the band.

When I first read through this review before Marty posted it I was a little surprised he didn't mention Scotty. I thought may the CD had been re-recorded, but apparently it hasn't. Still, Heard is given songwriting credits on some songs, but there is no mention of him anywhere else, booklet, website or bio. It's pretty lame considering that Damon Johnson may now be the singer, but he didn't sing on this album, at least all but one song. There is one song on this CD not on the original, so who sings it is a mystery, I guess. I hate it when bands disregard previous members like they're insignificant. Not to mention that Kelly Gray is in this band and he produced both of Sweaty Nipples' full-lengths and their debut EP (not sure about the three demos before it) and the EP came out in 1993, so he's known Heard for at least 13 years!! Pretty fucked up.

Anyway, good CD regardless. You should check out Soulbender, Michael Wilton of Queensryche's side-project, they're very good, too.

Hmmm... I was actually trying not to bash the band when I was posting that message. I thought I was being conscious enough when I said "if you're a fan of modern rock you might enjoy this," but I can see where my second statement would lead you to think otherwise. I really enjoy reading your reviews and I try to check out everything you review as well. The last thing I want to do is insult you or your taste in music. Sorry for that. I should've worded my post better.

Ever since you pointed out that it probably was Scotty Heard who sang on this album, I've been trying to find out just in fact who did the vocals for this "new" version of the album. From what I listened to of the original album samples from 2001, I don't hear any difference between those versions and this new one. I'm certain that this new release is basically the same version with Scotty Heard on vocals. I've E-mailed the rep from the label that sent this promo to me in hopes of getting some clarification. I might have a chance to do a phoner interview in a few weeks with someone in the band...wouldn't that be a great question to ask someone from the band.....would really put them on the spot!!

I'll dig out the original and upload it, too.

EDIT: In NESS's defense, he's not one of those that blows something off immediately. He doesn't call a rock band a generic power metal band—a clear indication of someone who's commenting on something they didn't listen to—and so on.
