Okay, I wont be able to sleep tonight unless I post this, so here goes:
There are many angles to the debate going on in my head. And, they are all rooted to two different outlooks on the situation. Please read carefully. Very carefully.
Side 1 of the Debate:
Okay, there are 2 days (48 hours) dedicated to each and every match. As you all know, the first day (the first 24 hours) are dedicated solely to the 2 poets alotted time to post their poems for the forums. The second day (the second set of 24 hours) is the actual official vote time. Only when both poets have submitted their work on day 1 can whatever remains of the those first 24 hours be added to the second 24 hours vote time.
That being said, when Zad and Kath decided to post the match thread themselves, it was still during the official first day, meaning the OFFICIAL voting time was unaffected. So, in that sense, the result was fair, because the match ended earlier than 48 hours after they actually posted their poetry. In my mind, they didn't need the full 48 hours because they still had the official vote time. Meaning Zad's last burst of votes were not valid (If my math had been correct.)
So, does that make the result FAIR in my mind?
HELL NO. Here's why:
2nd side of the debate
I NEVER outlined in the rules what one was to do in the instance of my no-showing. So, in all reality, I was never truly prepared for that kind of problem. When they finally took the situation into their own hands, who's to say they shouldn't get the full 48 hours like everyone else?
Evidently, me. Which I now think is wrong. Yes, I outlined that only the 2nd 24 hours were truly official, but I still never made anyone prepared for the case of my absence.
So, that being said, when time expired for the FULL 48 hours (that they deserved), it was a tie. 9 votes to 9 votes. I was perplexed as to what I should do. Yes, I knew they'd stretched the match the full 48, and I stood by my little rule about the 2nd day's time being unaffected... Which is why I was able to justify simply GIVING Kathaarian the victory on the basis of Dago's late vote. Yes, that's right, Dago voted late, and I instantly decided it was a fair tie breaker, on top of all the other crap. I made the decision easy for myself, and that was VERY wrong.
When Dago voted late for Aaron and Stefan's match, I made it clear that his vote did not count. Yet, I can decide that he is the instant tie breaker in Zad and Kath's match?
Yes, I AM running this tournament.
But, I ALSO am taking part in the competition.
This is what I was always afraid of in regards to my competing. I should not be allowed to make a decision like this on my own. I should have put it to a vote, or even had an official re-vote, or something like that. Something that wasn't me just making a decision for the sake of time, or other crap.
So, now Zad sits eliminated because of my UNFAIR (as I see it) decision, while I sit in my cushy round 1 spot, awaiting a match with Arthur. That's not right. This is all for fun, but there are winnings at the end of the rainbow for this tournament's champion. I can't allow this to go unobserved.
So, now the decision:
Alright, so Kathaarian earned his win. Just as much as Zad might've earned it. We can't strip him of it, or take that away from him anymore than we could take Dead Machine's win over Stefan away from him. He will move on into the second round.
However, Zad's participation doesn't have to end just because of this silliness. Because I bent the rules and regulations, something MUST be done to rectify his situation, even if only slightly.
I'm considering the following:
1) Making Zad the new reserve poet. Stefan, our original fill-in guy in case of no-showers, has already been spent. So, Zad could take the job in case of ANYONE ELSE not being able to compete at ANY point of the tourney. This would include later rounds.
2) Zad could take MY current spot in the tournament, and face Arthur. Let's face it, if I'm running things, I really shouldn't be competing. ***And with me out, I could make big decisions like the one I did earlier... Maybe a good thing?*** The only downfall would be that he'd have a very short amount of time to prepare his poem for that match, because it is coming up very soon. Hence, the idea for the next option...
3) If I beat Arthur, Zad takes my place AFTER the match. It's a shot in the dark, because Arthur could win just as easily as me, but it'd appease Zad without forcing him to render something on short notice.
There is a poll above. Honestly, if people rig this vote, I would not care, because I'd deserve it after unfairly handling the situation.
Final note:Of course Zad's opinion and his own decision about what he wants to do will be taken into account... (Like, if he's made the Reserve poet, and doesn't want the job, we can't force him) But, the fact that we give him the option, thats where the justice will be.
Please vote ASAP!!! This poll will only be open for 48 hours!
