I'm in the mood for some computer-generated spaceships. Is it worth it?

Dude, I've never watched the series and I thought the movie kicked ass! I hope they'll do more in the future.

I had never seen the show and was highly skeptical of the movie as science fiction is pretty easy to ruin. However the movie is fantastic. It is in the vein of Equilibrium and other sorts of movies in the sense that it is the little guys versus the totalitarian empire. If you like Star Wars you would probably enjoy it. It is suprisingly dark as well.

The comedy is great, too. Not too much to make it seem like a spoof, but just enough the make it funny, but still a serious movie. Definitely worth seeing/buying.

I liked it a lot. Good sci-fi is hard to come by, so kudos to them for delivering.

Good point, there was just the right amount of comedic relief.

PLUS REAVERS ARE FUCKING AWESOME OMG!!!

I bought it a few weeks back.. I think if you treat it like a 2 hour HBO quality TV show, you'll enjoy it. It's got Joss Whedon's typical snappy dialogue and some memorable characters.

In some ways it reminded me of a (really) low budget 5th element.

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.

But watch the series as well! Its less flashy and more character driven, and its fucking gold.

That's what was putting me off, the fact it was based on a TV series I'd never seen. I'd also seen an extremely fanboyish review praising the "latest slice of genius from the man behind Buffy" and thought, no thanks. But I'll probably get it, since you all liked it so much...

I voted "no" despite having never seen it, because I love to hate.

It has pretty spaceships and explosions. And the psychic girl-thing is quite cute, although that makes me feel guilty because I don't know if she's 16 yet. Is she, fanboys?

In the show/movie, she's 17. In real life, over twenty. Inara, however, is way hotter.

She's the "classy hooker" character?

Damn, I feel ridiculous.

Hey, I like Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Actually, I think anyone with a true interest in the occult would. It's basically a who's who of all of the ancient demons of lore and such. It really is much more than some stupid teen drama that just happens to have vampires.

Joss Whedon's work is always like that. On the surface, really silly. But if you take the time to absorb it, he always delivers the right mix of reality, despair, and knows exaclty when to throw the humour in.

Couldn't get into it the few times I bothered watching. Not being drunk might have helped, and owning a television might, as well.
